Called to Live in the Fellowship of the Spirit Bible Reading: Romans 1:1–10  Key Verse: 10  For I am not ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone  who believes: DEVOTION Bird migration is an effort to escape unbearable environments with the force of wind working against them in this flight. When one bird begins to tire, another shifts position to help carry the resistance of the wind. Creation itself reflects something God has always known about His people: we were never meant to journey alone.  Paul the Apostle’s letter to the believers in Rome is written out of a distance that feeds his longing for the Roman community. He has never walked the crowded Roman streets with them, never shared a meal at their tables, never worshipped beside them. Yet his words carry remarkable warmth: “Without ceasing I remember you always in my prayers” (Romans 1:9). Before Paul speaks theology, he speaks relationship. Before his...

The Divine Communion of Love  Bible Reading: St. John 3:8-16  Key Verse: 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. (John 3:16) DEVOTION The mysterious Holy Trinity is a dynamic communion of love. Before time even existed, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit existed in a perfect relationship of mutuality, of joy and unity. Yet their communion of love did not remain closed to humanity. Jesus, in His conversation with Nicodemus, revealed that salvation is the outward flow of Trinitarian love reaching down to our broken world. To explain this, early Church Fathers used the concept of “perichoresis,” which described the relationship like a divine dance existing within the three Persons of the Holy Trinity. It is a dance of mutual cooperation and united agency. The communion within the Holy Trinity flows into our world because God desires us to share in that divine fellowship. Thus...

Chosen, sealed, and inherited in love Bible Reading: :Ephesians 1:3-14 Key verse 13b -14    when you believed you were marked in him with a seal ,the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our  inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession-to the praise of his glory. DEVOTION Acts 19 details Paul’s interesting and successful missionary journey to Ephesus. Several years later, Paul writes to the Ephesians from prison to encourage the believers and remind them of the Gospel message which unites them. The letter begins with a Jewish poem which praises God for His Son, Jesus Christ, who through His death has made it possible for anyone to be adopted into God’s family. As stated in verse 5, God’s redemptive plan for humanity was not spontaneous and circumstantial, rather, it was from eternity past - God had already chosen a covenant people to bless. This covenant people was promised to the patriarch, Abraham in Genesis 12:1-3 and P...

The Lord Who Guides in Truth Bible Reading:  Isaiah 48:12–17 Key Verse:  17  “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you for your own good, who leads you in the way you should go.” — Isaiah 48:17 (NRSV) DEVOTION  In Isaiah 48, God speaks tenderly to His people who often wandered away from Him. Though Israel repeatedly failed, God did not abandon them. Instead, He continued to guide, teach, and lead them in truth. This passage reminds us that divine guidance is not merely a direction for success, but a call to walk faithfully in God’s ways. Today, many voices compete for our attention—social expectations, personal ambitions, and worldly definitions of success. Yet the Lord lovingly calls us back to His truth. God’s guidance is rooted in His holiness and compassion. As St. Augustine once wrote, “Our hearts are restless until they rest in You.” True peace comes when we allow God’s Word to shape our decisions and character. In the MarThoma tradition, Christian d...

Hope in His Unfailing Love God's word and spirit in harmony Bible Reading: : Psalms 33 Key Verse: 22 Let Your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in You” (Psalm 33:22). DEVOTION In recent days, our nation witnessed something powerful during “Good Neighbor Day America,” where hundreds of thousands of volunteers across all 50 states came together to serve others through simple acts of kindness, offering meals, support, and presence to those in need. In a world often marked by division and uncertainty, this collective movement reminded us that compassion is still alive and quietly transforming lives. Just as His Word creates and His Spirit sustains, we see that same divine work unfolding through ordinary people choosing kindness. In these moments, we are gently reminded that even in brokenness, God is still at work, bringing light, connection, and hope Psalm 33 reveals a profound truth: God’s Word and God’s Spirit act together in perfect harmony. “By the word of...

The Blessing That Flows from God’s Presence Bible Reading: :  Numbers 6:22-27 Key Verse: 27  So shall they put my name upon  the people of Israel, and I will bless them. DEVOTION Can we go through a whole day without stopping to notice God’s constant care? We wake up with strength in our bodies. We travel to school, work, or church safely. We have food to eat, clothes to wear, and people who love us. Many of these blessings happen so often that we may forget they are blessings at all. In Numbers 6, before the tribes of Israel bring their offerings to God at the tabernacle, God gives Moses a special blessing for Aaron and his sons to speak over the people: “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.” This blessing was not just a nice set of words, it is the truth from God Himself: true, trustworthy, and meaningful. God wanted His people to know that He ...

Communion that becomes mission  Bible Reading: :n John 17:20-26  Key Verse: 26 I made known to them your name  and I will continue to make it known.... DEVOTION  These are the concluding verses of the High Priestly prayer of Jesus. After praying for himself and his disciples he prays for the future believers who would believe in his name through the word of His disciples . His prayer is that they may be united just as he is united with his Father. Jesus was filled with the Father’s love, glorified as the sacrificial Lamb slain before the foundation of the world, and in the fullness of time revealed in the world ,as the true Light spoken by the Father at the beginning of creation. Communion with Jesus is of utmost importance for us to fulfill God’s mission in this world. God created mankind in His image and gave the command to be fruitful and multiply to dispel the darkness. However, the first man Adam fell prey to the deceptive tactics of darkness and ent...

Tongues of fire – Spirit breaks through confusion Bible Reading: : Acts 2: 1-13 Key Verse: 1 “When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.” Acts 2:1 DEVOTION Coming together as believers with one heart and mind brought extraordinary experiences of the Holy Spirit coming upon each of them. It means that, collectively and individually, the Spirit of God can come into our hearts. Those who came together were from different places and spoke different languages. It means that God understands His children equally, wherever they come from. What an uplifting experience it must have been! God wants us to live a Spirit-filled life so that we can glorify Him every day in all walks of life. As we gather together, as we sing together, and as we partake in Holy Communion together for worship, we feel the presence of the Spirit of God touching our hearts. When we sing together, pray and praise together, and listen to the Word of God together, we are moved by the Hol...

God’s Voice in a Noisy World Bible Reading: : John  20 :19-23 Key Verse: 19 We hear Jesus  say "Peace be with you " DEVOTION The disciples were afraid and hiding behind locked doors, but Jesus came and stood with them, saying these words. He breathed on them and gave them the Holy Spirit, showing them that He would always be with them and bring peace. Jesus does not wait for everything to be calm before coming to us. He comes to us when our emotions are all over the place. He enters the closed places in our hearts and speaks peace with confidence. Even when life feels chaotic, God brings comfort and certainty. Like the disciples, we know what it feels like to be "locked inside." We can feel trapped by worry, sadness, stress, anger, or fear. Life can be overwhelming, especially when we rely on our phones so much. Our schedules are full, and even our thoughts can be noisy. Many of us have felt anxious about exams, interviews, or our children's future, making it ...

A gentle whisper in the midst of chaos Bible Reading: : 1 Kings 19 : 11 - 18 Key Verse: 12 “After the fire came a gentle whisper.”  DEVOTION In a world filled with uncertainty, restless hearts and a lot of noise, God often chooses not to speak through the storm, but through a calm or gentle whisper.  In 1 Kings 19:11 - 18, the prophet Elijah stood weary and discouraged after facing fear, disappointment, and loneliness.  He expected God to appear in the wind, earthquake, or fire, yet the Lord came in a still small voice.  That quiet whisper renewed Elijah’s strength and reminded him that he was never alone.Today, many families and faithful members of the Malankara Mar Thoma Church in the Diocese of North America journey through busy schedules, uncertainties and spiritual struggles.  Amid the chaos of daily life, God calls us to pause and listen.  His whisper comes through prayer, Scripture, worship, fellowship, and quiet moments of surrender. The...

Set Apart by the Spirit & Courage to speak   Bible Reading: :  Acts 13: 1 - 12 Key Verse:  6-8 When they had gone through the whole island as  far as Paphos they came upon a certain magician , a Jewish false prophet  named Bar-Jesus. He was with the proconsul Sergius Paulos a man  of intelligence  who summoned Barnabas  and Saul and sought to hear the word of God. DEVOTION As we know the official motto of the MTC is “Lighted to Lighten “. It simply means every Marthomite is an evangelist. The two main primary responsibility of every Marthomite is to (i) worship and praise the true living God and (ii ) to evangelize. To evangelize means to proclaim the “True “word of God regardless of whether it aligns to our present secular world OR whether if some sections of our society find it to be offensive. Paul & Barnabas faced a similar situation while they were travelling to speak about Jesus. They encountered a Sorcerer / False p...

“Let’s Start at the Very Beginning”  Bible Reading: :  Genesis 1:1-5  1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. 3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness He called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning the first day.   Key Verse:  4 4 “God saw the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness DEVOTION “Let’s start at the very beginning… a very good place to start…!” All of us are familiar with this song from the classic movie “The Sound of Music.” Maria (Julie Andrews) through this song is trying to bring back light and joy into the dull, dark lives of the 7 Von Trapp children, for a new beginning. Likewise a question all of us (a...

The voice of of the Lord in thunder and majesty  Bible Reading: :  Psalms 29: Key Verse:  4 The voice of the Lord is powerful:  the voice of the Lord is full of majesty DEVOTION   Psalm 29 is a majestic hymn of praise, traditionally attributed to King David that depicts the “voice of the Lord” as a powerful sovereign force that rules over Heaven and Earth. This Psalm is notable for its emphasis on the name: The Lord, using it 18 times in 11 verses; and the Voice of the Lord is repeated seven times; seven signifying completeness in Hebrew thought.    His people of the strength and peace He offers them. The Psalm provides a rich understanding of the leadership of the Lord over all forces in heaven and on Earth. The psalm has three sections. The first section is a request to the heavenly beings to acknowledge the power and glory of God. The second section is all about the Lord’s command over the natural forces that are frightening to huma...

Silence in a Spiritually Barren Time  Bible Reading: : 1 Samuel 3: 1 - 10  Key Verse:  10 V. 10  “Speak, for your servant is listening”  DEVOTION This passage highlights the importance of fostering a willing obedient heart to discern God’s voice in a noisy world, where our lives are caught up in our race to material success, in our daily struggles to raise our children and to keep abreast of the times. The call to Samuel came at a me when the word of God was rare and there were not many visions, a time  of spiritual barrenness and corruption, and the failed leadership of Eli. During this period, direct communication  from God was infrequent due to Israel’s disobedience, yet God was actively preparing Samuel to bring light to that dark period. God often  speaks in unexpected or quiet ways, even when the world seems silent or dark. We often  go through phases in our lives when we feel that God’s presence is absen...

Walking by the Spirit: Faithful in Love. Bible Reading: :  Galatians 5:16–26 Key Verse:  22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness.”  DEVOTION The Christian life is not merely about following rules; it is about walking daily under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. In Galatians 5, Apostle Paul contrasts two paths.  The works of the flesh and the fruit of the Spirit. The flesh leads to division, selfishness, anger, and impurity, but the Spirit produces a life that reflects the character of Christ. To “walk by the Spirit” means to surrender our thoughts, words, and actions to God each day. We cannot overcome sinful desires by our own strength. The Holy Spirit empowers believers to live differently,  with love instead of hatred, patience instead of anger, and faithfulness instead of compromise. Among the fruits of the Spirit, love stands first because it is the foundation of Christian living. True ...

Holy Spirit — The Lord and Giver of Life Bible Reading: :  John 14: 15-21 Key Verse:  16 16: “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever.” DEVOTION In this passage, Jesus prepared His disciples for a time when He would no longer be physically present with them. Yet He did not leave them helpless or abandoned. He promised the coming of the Holy Spirit;  the Comforter, Helper, and Spirit of Truth. The Holy Spirit is not merely a force or influence, but the Lord and Giver of Life who dwells within every believer. The world often searches for life through wealth, power, or human wisdom, but true spiritual life comes only through the Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit gives strength to the weak, wisdom to the confused, peace to the troubled, and hope to the discouraged. He renews our hearts and leads us into a deeper relationship with Christ. Jesus said that those who love Him will keep His commandments. Obedienc...

Life in the Spirit;  Freedom from Condemnation            Bible Reading: :  Romans 8:1–11 Key Verse:  2  For the law of the spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death DEVOTION The eighth chapter of Epistle to the Romans opens with one of the most comforting promises in Scripture: “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus.” What a glorious assurance for every believer”? Through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the burden of guilt and the judgment of sin have been removed. Those who belong to Christ are no longer prisoners of condemnation but children walking in grace and freedom. Before knowing Christ, humanity lived under the power of sin and the weakness of the flesh. The flesh draws us toward selfish desires, fear, anger, and spiritual death. But God did not leave us helpless. He sent His Son to defeat sin and gave us the Holy Spirit to dwell with...

Cleansed and Empowered by the Spirit Bible Reading: :  Ezekiel 36:25–29 Key Verse:  27 :And I will put my spirit within you  and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules. DEVOTION The promise spoken through the prophet Ezekiel came to a people who were broken, scattered, and spiritually dry. Yet God did not abandon them. Instead, He declared a message of hope, renewal, and transformation. He said, “I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and you shall be clean.” God begins His work by cleansing the heart from sin, guilt, and defilement. Human effort cannot wash away the stain of sin, but the mercy of God can purify the soul completely. The Lord then gives an even greater promise: “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you.” God does not merely repair the old life; He creates something new within us. A hardened heart becomes tender. A rebellious spirit becomes obedient. Through the Holy Spirit, God changes ou...

“Teach Me to Walk in Your Spirit”        Bible Reading: :   Psalm 143    Key Verse:  10 : “Teach me to do Your will, because You are my God; may Your good Spirit lead me on level ground” (Psalm 143:10). DEVOTION Psalm 143, is a heartfelt cry of a weary soul seeking God’s guidance, mercy, and presence. David was  burdened and pursued. He does not rely on his own strength or wisdom. Instead, he humbly turns to God and prays, “Teach me to do Your will, because You are my God; may Your good Spirit lead me on level ground” (Psalm 143:10). This prayer reveals a deep spiritual truth: walking in God’s Spirit is not automatic. It must be learned. It requires surrender, dependence, and a willing heart. David does not ask merely for deliverance from his enemies, but he seeks for direction in his life. He longs not just to escape trouble, but to walk rightly before God. To walk in the Spirit means allowing God to guide our thought...

RISEN CHRIST: The Spirit of Renewal for Generations                                OUTPOURED UP ON THE CHOSEN Bible Reading: :  Isaiah 44:1–5 :      God’s covenant love is generational. DEVOTION  In this beautiful passage, God speaks tenderly to His people, calling them “My servant” and “Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.” Despite their past failures, His tone is not of condemnation, but of reassurance and promise. At the heart of this promise is a powerful declaration: “I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out My Spirit on your offspring, and My blessing on your descendants.” This is a message of renewal, not just for the present, but for future generations. God sees the dryness in our lives, the weariness, disappointments, and spiritual thirst. He responds with abundance. His Spirit is not given sparingly; it is poured out li...
