Cleansed and Empowered by the Spirit

Bible Reading: :  Ezekiel 36:25–29

Key Verse:  27

:And I will put my spirit within you  and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.

DEVOTION

The promise spoken through the prophet Ezekiel came to a people who were broken, scattered, and spiritually dry. Yet God did not abandon them. Instead, He declared a message of hope, renewal, and transformation. He said, “I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and you shall be clean.” God begins His work by cleansing the heart from sin, guilt, and defilement. Human effort cannot wash away the stain of sin, but the mercy of God can purify the soul completely.
The Lord then gives an even greater promise: “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you.” God does not merely repair the old life; He creates something new within us. A hardened heart becomes tender. A rebellious spirit becomes obedient. Through the Holy Spirit, God changes our desires, attitudes, and direction in life.
The Spirit of God not only cleanses but also empowers. Verse 27 says, “I will put my Spirit within you and cause you to walk in my statutes.” The Christian life is not lived by human strength alone. The Holy Spirit gives us power to overcome temptation, courage to stand in faith, and strength to live in obedience to God’s Word. What we cannot do on our own, God enables us to do through His Spirit.
Today, many believers seek power without cleansing, but God’s order is cleansing first, then empowerment. When the heart is surrendered to Him, the Spirit fills that life with divine strength and purpose.
May we daily seek the cleansing blood of Christ and the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit so that our lives may reflect God’s holiness and glory.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for cleansing us from sin and giving us a new heart. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit and empower us to walk in obedience and holiness. Remove every hardness within us and renew our spirit daily. Let our lives glorify You in all we do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
