Christ – The Anointed One Bible Reading:    James  5:12-18 Key Verse Vs 15-16 “V15-16: And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. DEVOTION The English word "Christ" comes from the Greek Christos, which means "the Anointed One". Jesus Christ has been chosen by God to fulfill the specific divine mission of rescuing people from their sins by His sacrificial death on the cross. Only Jesus can provide both physical and spiritual restoration. As followers of Jesus, we have been entrusted with the responsibility to pray fervently – not only in our sufferings but also in our joy. We are also called to pray for one another. A prayer offered in faith can physically heal the sick and can spiritually restore the sinful....

Church – The Body of Christ Bible Reading:   1 Corinthians 12:12-27 Key Verse Vs 12 “For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.” 1 Cor.  12:12 DEVOTION The Father, in His great love, sent His Son into this lowly world for the salvation of all mankind. This gift of salvation is not limited to one group of people, it is for every nation, every race, and every individual. No matter our background, skin color, or culture, our Creator lovingly offers each of us the opportunity to be with Him for eternity. The Bible reminds us that all human beings are created in the image of God. Yet, in many parts of the world, including places like India, history has shown divisions where people were not treated equally and were often bound by social and cultural barriers. But through the message of Christ, light entered into darkness. Christian missionaries carried this truth, that every per...

From Strangers to one household of peace Bible Reading: Ephesians  2:11-22   Key Verse Vs 14 "For He himself is our peace  who has made us both one and has broken down  in his flesh the dividing  wall of hostility' DEVOTION Glory to Jesus Christ, Glory Forever!  In this passage, Paul reminds believers that they were once far from God, separated and without hope. They were outsiders, not part of God’s promises. However, through Jesus Christ, everything changed. His sacrifice brought those who were far away near to God. On Palm Sunday, we remember Jesus entering Jerusalem as King. While the people welcomed Him with praise, His true mission was to bring peace between God and humanity. He came to remove the barrier of sin and make a way for everyone to be united with God. Jesus breaks down barriers. Sin created a wall between us and God, but Jesus removed that wall through His death. Because of Him, we are no longer separated or rejected. Just as th...

Entry of the King of Peace Bible Reading:  Mark 11:1–11 Key Verse Vs 9 “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord DEVOTION The triumphal entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem reveals Him as the King of Peace. He entered the city humbly, riding on a colt, and the people welcomed Him by spreading their garments and branches on the road and shouting praises. This scene reminds me of a touching experience from my mission field experience. When our Metropolitan Theodosius Mar Thoma was serving as a diocesan Episcopa, he once visited the village of Bijjawara in Karnataka. It was the first time a bishop had visited that village. The believers washed the streets and spread their clothes and tree branches on the path to welcome him. Their humble devotion reflected the spirit of the people who welcomed Jesus into Jerusalem. 1. The Humble King Jesus entered Jerusalem riding on a colt, not on a war horse. This act fulfilled the prophecy of Zechariah in Book of Zechari...

Hunger to be the will of God Bible Reading: Numbers 11: 4-15 Key Verse Vs 5  We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no cost (Numbers 11:5) DEVOTION   The book of Numbers is a chronicle of the Israelites’ journey through the desert after escaping slavery in Egypt. During this journey, the Lord provides for every need of the Israelites; however, the Israelites know only to complain. In the key passage, we come across the Israelites complaining about the good food they used to enjoy in Egypt. While reading the passage, we see how the Israelites conveniently forget the cruelties they faced as slaves in Egypt and crave the meat, fish and vegetables they ate during their time in Egypt. They forget their cries to the Lord to deliver them and choose to complain about the manna that the Lord gives them every morning that sustains and nourishes them in the desert. We also read about how they wail about not having meat to eat. The act of wailing for meat shows how deeply sor...

Grafted into the peaceful kingdom Bible Reading:   Romans 11 : 16 - 24 Key Verse Vs 21 If some of the branches have been broken off, and you, though a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root.  DEVOTION   In Romans 11:16–24, Paul the Apostle explains God’s plan using the picture of an olive tree. The root represents God’s promises, and the branches represent His people. Some branches were removed because of unbelief, and others were grafted in. This shows that being part of God’s kingdom is not about who we are, but about faith. This teaches us an important lesson—there is no place for pride. We are part of God’s family not because we earned it, but because of His grace. Just as a branch depends on the tree for life, we depend on God for everything. Paul also gives a warning. If God removed some branches because they did not believe, we too must stay strong in faith and not become care...

Annunciation to Virgin Mary Bible Reading:   Luke 1:26-38 Key Verse Vs 37 “For nothing will be impossible with God” DEVOTION Luke describes the ordinary days when ordinary Jewish men and women were selected  by God to receive His messages  before the incarnation event. Mary was one among the selected group . Others  listed are Zacharias who was serving as a priest , ordinary  shepherds living out in the fields keeping watch over their flock by night.  What an unbelievable news delivered to Mary by angel Gabriel ,Mary would become the mother of a king who would be called “Son of the Most  High “(V32) Mary could not comprehend the news at the outset and she asked as any lay virgin might question. Perhaps Gabriel smiled as he began to explain . He knew that when God makes a promise he brings it to fruition ,He provides Mary with even more confirmation ,her cousin Elizabeth ,who had been barren for all her life ,had also conceived a child...

When the Peace of Christ Rules Your Heart Bible Reading:  Colossians  3:12-17 Key Verse Vs 15  “Let the Peace of Christ rule in your hearts” Colossians 3:15  DEVOTION  Many people search for peace in different ways-through success, comfort, or avoiding problems. Yet the Bible teaches that true peace does not come from our circumstances but from allowing Jesus Christ to rule our hearts. Imagine our heart-our inner world of emotions, thoughts and motives-as an arena . It is often filled with competing voices: fear and hope, jealousy and trust, anger and patience. Paul in his letter to Colossians provides a revolutionary strategy for this inner conflict. ”Let the peace of Christ rule in your heart ( 3:15 ) what does it mean to let Peace Rule? When the Peace of Christ rules, it means Jesus is the final authority in our life. It is not a passive, quiet feeling but an active, alert force that decides which thoughts to keep and which to discard. It rules ov...

The humble King who brings deliverance. Bible Reading:  Zechariah 9: 1-12 Key Verse Vs 9 “Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” ‭‭Zechariah‬ ‭9‬:‭9‬ ‭ DEVOTION  During prophet Zechariah’ time there were no kings in Jerusalem. Moreover, they were reigned by foreign powers. He was looking to a future event. Zechariah 9:9 is a Messianic prophecy calling for joy in Jerusalem for the triumphant entry of a victorious King and the Messiah with the intrinsic characteristics of humility and righteousness. He is the Good Shepherd. His riding on the donkey symbolizes lowliness, humility and peace. He is the source of salvation and the reason for the forgiveness of our sins. This verse foretells a peaceful Leader rather than a warmonger, signaling the coming of a King who brings salvation; fulfilled by Jesus’ arrival into Jerusalem on a co...

Grace That Triumphs Over Sin and Death Bible Reading:  Romans 5:8-21 Key Verse Vs 21 Romans 5:21: "So that as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." DEVOTION Contrasting Adam and Christ Paul presents a powerful contrast between Adam and Christ. Adam introduced sin and death into the world, while Christ brought righteousness and life. These two figures encapsulate the message of Romans: Adam represents humanity’s condemnation, whereas Christ stands for the justification of believers. Physical death is the penalty for sin and is also a symbol of spiritual death. Ultimately, sin separates us from God. However, through Christ, grace entered the world, bringing righteousness and life. Where sin increased, grace abounded even more. This grace is not fragile or fleeting—it is victorious and enduring. Lent: A Time of Reflection Lent reminds us of our fragility and weakness. It is a season when w...

Cross: Manifestation of Grace Bible Reading:  St. Mark 10:46-52 Key Verse Vs 52 "And Jesus said to him, 'Go your way; your faith has made you well.' And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the way." (St. Mark 10:52) DEVOTION Think of sitting on the dusty edge of a busy road, begging to the people for your survival. For Bartimaeus, his life was a cycle of shadows and the sound of footsteps passing him by. He was "the blind beggar"—a man reduced to a label. But grace has a way of disrupting the labels that the world pins on us. When Bartimaeus heard that Jesus was near, he didn't offer a polite request; he screamed at the top of his voice for mercy. The crowd tried to silence him, essentially telling him he wasn't important enough to interrupt the Master. How often do we silence our own hearts, thinking our "blindness" or our mess is too small for God's notice? The Manifestation of Grace is found in the moment, when J...

Grace that overcomes history Bible Reading:   Micah  7:15-20 Key Verse Vs 18 There is no other god like you, O Lord; you forgive the sins of your people who have survived. You do not stay angry forever, but you take pleasure in showing us your constant love. DEVOTION Micah, a prophet from Moresheth and a contemporary of Isaiah, delivers a message that moves from judgment to hope. Micah Chapters 1–3 describe God’s coming judgment on Israel and Judah for their sin and injustice. Micah Chapters 4–5 shift toward restoration, promising future peace and God’s faithful intervention. Micah Chapters 6–7 blend warning with assurance, confronting the people’s unfaithfulness while extending mercy. Micah 7:15–20 concludes the book with a powerful vision of God’s compassion and forgiveness. These verses highlight God’s past faithfulness, His unmatched mercy, and His commitment to remove sin and restore His people, ending the book in worship and hope. Just as Micah highlight...

Grace That Overcomes History Bible Reading:  Micah  7:15-20 Key Verse Vs 19 Vs 19. You will cast all our sins in to the depths of the sea. DEVOTION Micah 7:19 reminds us of God's enduring compassion and His power to forgive. The verse states, "He will again have compassion on us. He will tread our iniquities under foot. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea." This passage emphasizes the overwhelming grace of God—a grace strong enough to overcome our past and erase our sins, offering us a fresh start. It reminds us that God's love and mercy are greater than our shortcomings, and He is always ready to forgive when we turn to Him. A Message of Comfort in Times of Loss Today, I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to one of our CEF coordinators, Mr. Samji John, who was suddenly called to eternity. The news was shocking and deeply upsetting, and it serves as a reminder that life is not within our control. Our Lord, the Creator, holds all things in Hi...

GRACE WRITTEN ON THE HEART Bible Reading: Jeremiah 31:31–34 Key Verse Vs 33 “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.” – Jeremiah 31:33 DEVOTION   Picture standing at the edge of a chalk-dusted classroom, watching as the teacher writes an important rule on the board; a rule meant to guide you every day. Many people try to remember what is written like this.  But God wants something deeper. He wants hearts that truly know and love Him. Through Jeremiah, God promised a new covenant. His law would not just be on stone tablets; He would inscribe it on hearts. God's Word would become part of a person’s identity, guiding thoughts and actions every day. God's grace on our hearts changes how we obey. Obedience is no longer a burden but a joyful response to His love. The Holy Spirit helps us make choices that honor God. Children with God’s grace on their hearts love and obey God sincerely, not just out o...

Grace That Shelters the Broken Bible Reading:   Psalm 31 Key Verse Vs 9 “Be merciful to me, O Lord, for I am in distress; my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and my body with grief.” (Psalm 31:9) DEVOTION There are moments when life feels like it’s pressing in from every side—when fear whispers louder than hope, and our strength seems too small for the weight we carry.  Psalm 31 gives voice to that experience. David cries out from a place of deep distress, yet woven through his words is a steady, unshakable truth: God’s grace is a shelter for the broken. David says, “You are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of Your Name lead me and guide me.” He isn’t pretending to be strong. He isn’t hiding his fear. Instead, he brings his whole, trembling self before God. That in itself is an act of trust. God’s grace meets us not when we have it all together, but when we finally admit we don’t. God’s sheltering grace doesn’t always remove the storm, but it holds us ...

Grace that Bears our Iniquities  Bible Reading:  Isaiah 53:4-6 Key Verse 5  “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.”  – Isaiah 53:5 DEVOTION A sharp crack from a wooden stump ended our  Saturday evening  cricket game. While a couple of our friends went searching for our ball, which somehow always managed to bury itself in the bushes, the rest of us drifted toward our favorite ice-cream stall. The soft-serve machine worked flawlessly, and we had our cones in hand before the ball hunters returned. We decided to wait. What fun is ice-cream if eaten alone? The Chennai heat, however, didn't share our sentiment. When our friends finally arrived, they only saw melted, sticky puddles in our syrup-covered hands. They assumed we’d been careless and walked away in disappointment. We stood there, stunned by the irony: they didn’t realize ...

A New way of Relating That breaks Chains Bible Reading:  Ephesians 6: 5 – 9 Key Verse Vs 7 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, Eph 6: 7 DEVOTION In Epistle to the Ephesians 6:5–9, the Apostle Paul teaches believers about the attitude they should have in their work and relationships. The key word in this passage is “Serve” Paul instructs servants to obey their earthly masters with sincerity of heart, as they would serve Christ. This teaching goes beyond the simple relationship between a servant and a master. It speaks to every believer about how we should approach our daily responsibilities. Whether at work, at home, or in ministry, our actions should reflect the understanding that we are ultimately serving the Lord. Many people work only when they are watched or when they expect recognition. But Paul reminds us that Christian service is not “eye-service,” performed merely to please people. Instead, we should serve wholeheartedly, doing the...

Call to be liberative Bible Reading:  Luke 13:10–17  Key Verse Vs 12-13 When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, “Woman, you are set free from your infirmity.” 13 Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God. Luke  13: 12-13 DEVOTION In Luke 13:10–17, we see Jesus was teaching in a synagogue on the Sabbath when He notices a woman who had been bent over for eighteen years. She could not straighten herself. While others may have seen only her condition, but Jesus saw her pain. He called her forward and said, “Woman, you are set free from your infirmity .” Instantly, she stood upright and began praising God. The synagogue leader was annoyed because the healing took place on the Sabbath. But Jesus responded by exposing their hypocrisy. If they would untie an ox or donkey to give water on the Sabbath, how much more should this “daughter of Abraham” be set free from her bondage? This passage reminds us that Jesu...

Comfort that lifts us out of Affliction Bible Reading:  2 Cori. 1: 3-11 Key Verse Vs 5 For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ.        2 Cori. 1: 5 DEVOTION In 2 Corinthians 1:3–11, the Apostle Paul begins with a beautiful declaration: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort.” These words were not written from a place of affliction rather than a place affluence. Paul had endured suffering, persecution, and despair, where he was awaiting the death sentence. Yet, in the midst of hardship, he discovered something profound: God’s comfort is most real when our strength is gone. Paul teaches us that our trials are not meaningless. The comfort we receive from God becomes the comfort we extend to others. Our pain becomes a ministry. Our tears become a testimony. When we depend on ourselves, we are limited; but when we rely on God who ...

Worship that sets the Oppressed free Bible Reading: Isaiah 1:12–17 Key Verse Vs 17 Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow. Isa  1: 17 DEVOTION In Isaiah 1:12–17, the Lord speaks with striking honesty to His people. Through the prophet Isaiah, God declares that He is weary of their sacrifices, their festivals, and even their prayers. This is a shocking message. The people were doing everything religiously correct, bringing offerings, observing holy days, gathering for worship. Yet God says, “I cannot endure iniquity and the sacred meeting.” Why would God reject worship that He Himself commanded? Because their worship had become empty. Their hands were lifted in prayer, but they were also “full of blood.” Their rituals were active, but their hearts were distant. God was not looking for mere sacrifices, but He was looking for repentance. The Lord says, “Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; ...

The readiness to face the cross Bible Reading: Mark 10:32–34 Key Verse Vs 33 “We are going up to Jerusalem,” he said, “and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles. Mark 10:33 DEVOTION In Gospel of Mark 10:32–34, we find a deeply moving moment in the journey of Jesus. The Scripture says they were “on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them.” There is something powerful in that picture. Jesus walked in front, fully aware of what awaited Him. Jerusalem was not just another destination. It was the place of betrayal, suffering, rejection, and crucifixion. Yet our Lord did not hesitate. He did not slow His steps. He did not turn aside. He walked ahead. The disciples, we are told, were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. They sensed the weight of the moment, even if they did not fully understand it. Jesus then took the Twelve asi...
