“Let’s Start at the Very Beginning”

Bible Reading: :  Genesis 1:1-5

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. 3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness He called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning the first day.

Key Verse:  4

4 “God saw the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness

DEVOTION

“Let’s start at the very beginning… a very good place to start…!” All of us are familiar with this song from the classic movie “The Sound of Music.” Maria (Julie Andrews) through this song is trying to bring back light and joy into the dull, dark lives of the 7 Von Trapp children, for a new beginning. Likewise a question all of us (as we are called to be life-long students of God’s Word) need to ask is: Where does all true beginning start? With God!  Before man discovered knowledge, reason, science, or philosophy; God was already there. In the beginning, when the earth was formless, empty, and covered in darkness, it was not human wisdom that brought light, order and meaning, or life. It was the voice of God: “Let there be light.” Hence all forms of learning, growing or establishment should begin by recognizing God as the giver of all knowledge, wisdom & understanding! Only then will there be real growth and prosperity. This world celebrates academia, intellect, and information, yet knowledge without divine discernment leaves the soul in darkness. A brilliant mind without the light of God can still wander lost, proud, and spiritually blind. True wisdom is not merely knowing facts; it is knowing how to apply the knowledge gained in a Godly manner. True understanding begins when the Holy Spirit illuminates the heart. Only God can separate light from darkness within us. Only His truth can expose deception, pride, sin, and emptiness hidden deep in the soul. Human learning may sharpen the mind, but only the eternal Light of Christ can transform the spirit. Therefore, all true learning should ultimately point the learner toward God; the Author of wisdom, knowledge, truth, light and life. For without Him, even the wisest remain in darkness. But when God says, “Let there be light,” the soul awakens, darkness flees, and life begins anew. May the Word of God, through His Holy Spirit enlighten every heart and renew every mind to utilize all knowledge & learning for the Glory of God, the extension of His Kingdom and for the good of His people.

PRAYER

Dear God, our Heavenly Father, You are the giver of true Light! Keep our hearts anchored in Christ, the source of our life and our Light. May we walk daily in Him, growing more into His likeness, for Your glory & for the extension of Your Kingdom. In Jesus Name. Amen

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Does the world and its secular ideologies, philosophies & logic govern my life, or does God Almighty have the reigns to my life?
