The voice of of the Lord in thunder and majesty

Bible Reading: :  Psalms 29:

Key Verse:  4

The voice of the Lord is powerful:  the voice of the Lord is full of majesty

DEVOTION

Psalm 29 is a majestic hymn of praise, traditionally attributed to King David that depicts the “voice of the Lord” as a powerful sovereign force that rules over Heaven and Earth. This Psalm is notable for its emphasis on the name: The Lord, using it 18 times in 11 verses; and the Voice of the Lord is repeated seven times; seven signifying completeness in Hebrew thought.
His people of the strength and peace He offers them. The Psalm provides a rich understanding of the leadership of the Lord over all forces in heaven and on Earth. The psalm has three sections. The first section is a request to the heavenly beings to acknowledge the power and glory of God. The second section is all about the Lord’s command over the natural forces that are frightening to human beings. The attributes that define God are Omni potent (all powerful), Omniscient (all knowing), Omnipresent (ever present) and Omni benevolent (all good/loving). The voice of the Lord is irresistible, sovereign and universal. The third and the final section is verse 11, which assures
What do we learn from this Psalm?  First and foremost is about God’s power over heaven and earth. What is frightening to us is under God’s control. In a world where we are in awe of the advances and achievements in science and technology, we are reminded that the Lord reigns over and that He is in control. This helps us not to get distracted by human accomplishments and focus on what is important- the Lord’s power. The Psalm invites us to listen to God’s voice.

The second learning is the powerful promise from God – that despite all the forces of heaven and earth, the Lord is in control and that he strengthens His people and blesses them with peace. What is important to note is that the guarantee of peace is offered to His People.  The third and final learning is that we should aspire to be His People-by studying the word of God, practicing Christian values and embracing the generosity of spirit, which is an attitude of open-hearted kindness, compassion and understanding towards others without expecting anything in return.
