Productive Living: The Best Is Yet to Come

Bible Reading: St. John 21:18–23

Key verse 19

Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, “Follow me!” Verse 19

DEVOTION

This passage features a profound dialogue between Simon Peter, the disciple who denied Jesus, and Jesus, the Savior. Jesus speaks about Peter’s future and the path he would follow, including a death through which Peter would glorify God. John, “the disciple whom Jesus loved,” is also mentioned.
Do we give up when we face difficult situations, or do we place our hope and trust in God Almighty? Peter once declared that he was willing to remain with Jesus and even die with Him. Yet, when Jesus was crucified, Peter denied Him. However, the resurrection transformed Peter’s faith, trust, and hope. His life was redirected toward the purpose God had designed for him.
In the passage, we see Peter shift his focus from Jesus to John, asking, “Lord, what about him?” Jesus reminded Peter that God has a unique plan for each person. Peter’s calling was not to compare his journey with John’s, but simply to follow Jesus.
We, too, can become distracted by comparing our lives with others. We may feel weak, broken, discouraged, or uncertain about the future. Yet God knows our purpose and the plans He has for us. Therefore, never give up. Keep trusting God, remain faithful, and continue following Jesus.

Remember: the best is yet to come.

PRAYER

Dear Lord, loving Abba, help me know what you plan for me and strengthen me to do what you ought me to do for you. Guide me and lead me in your path I pray, Amen.
