Women Who Trust God: Fearless and Faithful

Bible Reading:  : Acts Ch 1 v 12-14

Key verse 17

Vs 17,  "The midwives, however, feared God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them to do; they let the boys live”.

DEVOTION

During a time  when women were considered as second class citizens, their voices or opinions were not heard or respected,  there was a group of women who followed Jesus loyally and boldly. They travelled with Jesus along with His disciples, supported them with their money, remained with him during crucifixion unlike some of the disciples who fled and were first witnesses to His resurrection. In Luke 8:1-3 talks about a few. "Soon afterward He went on through cities and villages, proclaiming and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with Him and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons  had gone out, and Joanna, the wife of Chuza,Herod's household manager and Susanna and many others who provided for them out of their means". Women traveling with Jesus and His disciples would have been uncharacteristic of rabbis in those days and quite radical. In fact rabbis refused to teach women because they were considered inferior.Much like the disciples these women had been made whole and transformed into a new life by Jesus and His ministry. No doubt they were telling and teaching others about Jesus. But we overlook their presence and contributions simply because the Gospel does not say as much about them as the disciples. What does this mean for our lives today? These women remind us about the power of a relationship with Christ and how it can propel us to do things we never thought possible. They reveal to us that Jesus's disciples consisted of men and women, all God' s children created in the image and likeness of God. We can rest assured that no matter who we are, we are meant to co- labor with God sharing our resources, talents and gifts to God' s glory and the building of His kingdom. We can be like Mary Magdalene,Joanna, Susanna and many other women and men who journeyed with Jesus. We can bravely hope and faithfully believe. We can step out in faith to do courageous things that have a positive impact on those around us.

PRAYER

Father, Help me to be patient and obedient as I wait for Your direction. Teach me to stay close to You through prayer and to remain united with others in faith. Give us a trusting heart that believes You are working even when I cannot yet see what You are doing. Help us to seek You above everything else. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Sometimes God tells us to wait before He tells us to move. The bible portion shows that waiting doesn't mean doing nothing. The disciples were praying, staying together, and preparing themselves for what God was about to do
