Identity in Christ marked by Baptism

Bible Reading:  1st Peter 3:18-22

Key verse:  21

1 Peter 3:21 – “and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God.”

DEVOTION

We live in a time when identity is constantly being shaped by social media, careers, relationships, and public opinion. Many people spend their lives trying to prove their worth or searching for a place where they truly belong. Peter reminds us that our deepest identity is not something we create—it is something we receive through Jesus Christ.
Christ "suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God" (v.18). Through His death and resurrection, Jesus did what we could never do for ourselves: He reconciled us to God. Peter points to baptism—not merely as washing with water, but as an appeal to God through Christ's resurrection (v.21). Baptism is God's visible sign that we belong to Him.
Imagine receiving a new passport after becoming a citizen of another country. Your appearance may not change overnight, but your citizenship, rights, and identity have changed. In a similar way, baptism marks our belonging to God's kingdom. Though we still live in this world and face its struggles, our primary identity is no longer found in the labels of this world but in being beloved sons and daughters of God."
Yet many of us still carry old voices—hurtful names, false accusations, or words that made us feel unworthy. Those voices can echo for years, but they do not define us. God does. In a culture that constantly asks, "Who are you?" the Gospel gives a clear answer: "You are Christ's."

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for making us Your own through Jesus Christ. Help us to reject every false label and find our identity in Your unfailing love. May our lives reflect the grace we have received and point others to You. In Jesus' name, Amen

Before the world could label you, God claimed you. When accusations arise, remember your baptism and live confidently as God's beloved child.

PRIESTHOOD: THE ANOINTED MINISTRY Exodus 40:12-16 Bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting... wash them with water. Then dress Aaron in the sacred garments, anoint him and consecrate him so he may serve me as priest (Exodus 40: 12-13). Priesthood among the people of God was a divine command and initiation. God wanted some people to be separated for the special ministry among his people. God appointed Aaron and his descendants to take up this kind of ministry among the people of God.
