Identity in Christ marked by Baptism

Bible Reading:  St. John 3:1-8

Key verse:  5

“Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.”  St. John 3:5

DEVOTION

We live in a world that constantly asks, “Who are you?” Our answer is often shaped by our profession, achievements, failures, family name, or social status. Yet Jesus tells Nicodemus that our deepest identity is not found in what we have done but in what God has done. We must be “born of water and the Spirit.”
Baptism is not merely a ceremony performed in infancy or adulthood. It is God’s declaration over our lives: “You belong to Me.” Through baptism, Christ places His name upon us. But the tragedy is that many who carry Christ’s name no longer carry Christ’s character. We remember the day of our baptism, yet forget the life it calls us to live.
Imagine a prince who leaves the palace, lives among beggars, and forgets he is the king’s son. His poverty is not because he lacks an inheritance, but because he has forgotten his identity. Many Christians live the same way. We have been marked by Christ, yet we continue to wear the chains of sin, resentment, pride, greed, and secret compromises.
Jesus does not invite us to improve ourselves; He invites us to be made new. Repentance is not simply feeling sorry for sin; it is returning to the identity God has already given us in Christ. Every day is an opportunity to remember our baptism, die to the old self, and walk in the new life the Holy Spirit creates.
Today, ask yourself: Does my life reveal the mark of my baptism, or has the world erased the evidence that I belong to Christ? The One who gave you a new birth is still able to renew your heart.

PRAYER

Gracious God, thank You for the new life You have given us through Christ. Renew us by Your Holy Spirit, lead us to true repentance, and help us live each day as Your faithful children. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.


THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

                 Baptism identifies us with Christ; the Holy Spirit shapes us to resemble Him.

PRIESTHOOD: THE ANOINTED MINISTRY Exodus 40:12-16 Bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting... wash them with water. Then dress Aaron in the sacred garments, anoint him and consecrate him so he may serve me as priest (Exodus 40: 12-13). Priesthood among the people of God was a divine command and initiation.
