Marriage: Celebration of Unity and Partnership

Bible Reading: St. Matthew 19:4-6

Key verse:  

6. “So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate.”

DEVOTION

This passage is a common passage known to all of us. It guides us to remember the sanctity of marriage. Jesus reminds them the joining is not just a contract that was given, but rather a covenantal relationship the God joined man and woman together.  It guides us to take heed on the oneness and the importance of it. The oneness of body, spirit and mindset guides a new culture for a new home. No longer “I” but “we” mentality.  The world would try to break what God intends.

As Christians, in the context of marriage, constant journey with God is always important as it holds one to another closer together.  There is protection to be under the wings of our creator than to be deceived by the pleasures of this world.  “Let no man separate” brings a boundary that is protected where no one can break into.  In this passage, we see God’s original plan and purpose in marriage as it traces back to the creation narratives in Genesis. 


PRAYER

“Precious Savior, guide our lives to remember your unconditional love, to learn from it and commit to abide in that love through the blessing of marriage.  Amen.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

A cord of three strands is not easily broken. (Ecclesiastes 4:12)

PRIESTHOOD: THE ANOINTED MINISTRY Exodus 40:12-16 Bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting... wash them with water. Then dress Aaron in the sacred garments, anoint him and consecrate him so he may serve me as priest (Exodus 40: 12-13). Priesthood among the people of God was a divine command and initiation. God wanted some people to be separated for the special ministry among his people. God appointed Aaron and his descendants to take up this kind of ministry among the people of God.
