Break the Chain: Finding Freedom from Addictions

Bible Reading: : : Matthew 4: 1-11

Key verse 10

Worship the  Lord your God and serve him only .

DEVOTION

Addiction is defined as repetitive behaviors, that with time, become mindless habits and reoccurring actions. When we think of the word addiction, we may think of alcohol or drugs but there are more addictions than that. There are worldly or social addictions, generational addictions, personal addictions, just to name a few, that can affect the well being of a person. The Bible says, “I can do all things through Jesus Christ who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13 Are we children of the world or children of God? First, honestly answer that. God will hold you accountable and remind you that you belong to Him and that He loves you tremendously! The Bible mentions miracles of chains breaking, believers in God receiving freedom, healing, restoration, forgiveness and God’s unfailing love. We break chains and find freedom in addictions when we are able to admit that there is a problem, we talk with God and open our hearts to Him and repent; when we truly believe in God, commit our lives to God-surrendering our ways for His ways, have a relationship with God read and study the Bible (God’s Word and how he communicates with us) and make time with God. Matthew 4:1-11 talks about Jesus in the wilderness and Satan tried three times to tempt Jesus after Jesus fasted for forty days and forty nights. Jesus’ time in the wilderness is after Jesus is baptized by John the Baptist and before Jesus selects his twelve disciples. It is the time of Jesus starting the ministry of God, healing and miracles in the Bible. The significance of Satan testing Jesus is similar to the tests of faith that we endure. Temptations can become addictions. Is it impossible to break an addiction? No. It all depends on you and what you’re willing to do about it. We are blessed to have a Loving Father who is always available and waiting with open arms to receive us just the way we are-beloved.

PRAYER

Father God, we come to you and praise you for your grace, love and mercy that surpasses our understanding. We ask the Holy Spirit to please come inside us and examine us, show us what is not of you and please break all strongholds and help us to feel freedom in your loving and rescuing arms. Please break the chains that have entangled me, knowingly and unknowingly, so that I may better serve you in all that I do. In Jesus name, Amen.

Thought for the DAY

What chains have you been carrying? Any addictions? What are you going to do about it?
