The Day of Apostles St. Peter & St. Paul

Bible Reading: :Matthew 20:25–28

Key verse 20

"Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave." (vv. 26–27)

DEVOTION

When we look at Christ, we see a leader who is completely different from the leaders of this world. Though He was the Son of God, He chose to be born in a manger. He lived as the son of a carpenter and associated with those whom society often overlooked - the poor, fishermen, and even those considered sinners, such as tax collectors. At the age of thirty-three, He died the death of a criminal on a cross. When false accusations were brought against Him, He did not open His mouth in defense. He endured mocking, spitting, beating, and persecution at the hands of His own creation, even though all authority in heaven and on earth belonged to Him. Christ deliberately chose a path that was completely different from what the world values and teaches.
We become Christ's true disciples when we follow His example and obey His commands. This truth was beautifully demonstrated in the lives of the Apostles Peter and Paul. Though they were pillars of the Church, they did not seek honor or recognition. Like Christ, they served others, endured suffering, and ultimately gave their lives for the sake of the Gospel.
Their witness challenges each of us to ask: Am I seeking recognition, or am I seeking opportunities to serve? The path to greatness in God's kingdom is the path that Peter, Paul, and Jesus Himself walked - the path of humble service, self-sacrifice, and love.

PRAYER

Abba, Father, thank You for Your Word. We are weak, but You are strong. Fill us with Your Spirit and help us grow in every way into Christ, who is the Head of the Church. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Thought for the DAY

We cannot serve two masters. Decide today: Will you follow Christ or the world?
