God the Greatest Influencer — The Battle belongs to the LORD.

Bible Reading: :2 Chronicles 20:13-19

Key Verse: 15 d

Do not be afraid  and do not be dismayed at this great  horde. for the battle is not yours but God's.

DEVOTION

First and Second Chronicles take the history of Samuel and *Kings* and apply its lessons to the generations returning from Babylonian exile. While the main theme is “Throne in Kings,” Second Chronicles gives most emphasis to the Holy Temple. It’s a temple-centered book.
In the 36 chapters of Second Chronicles, chapters 1–9 talk about Solomon’s reign, while 10–36 describe the good and bad kings who ruled Judah—20 kings over about 350 years. Among them, at least five ruled in godly fear. One of these kings is **Jehoshaphat**, whose story is mentioned in this text.
Suddenly, he faced a huge problem: the Moabites, Ammonites, and a great multitude from beyond the sea came to attack. Although the king had a large army, he humbled himself to seek the LORD and proclaimed a fast throughout Judah.
Verse 13 says: *“And all Judah stood before the LORD with their little ones, their wives, and their children.”*
The Spirit of the LORD came upon Jahaziel and said, *“Thus says the LORD unto you, be not afraid or dismayed by reason of this great multitude; the battle is not yours but God’s.”*
Again, verse 17 says: *“You shall not need to fight in this battle. Stand still, fear not; the LORD will be with you till the end.”*
They all began praising God—and the result: God gave them the greatest victory over their enemies without the king’s men fighting!
What are we learning here:
Nowadays, when we look into the world, all we see is raging wars, hunger, disease, violence, and total unrest. Young and old alike are unhappy and disappointed. The story of Jehoshaphat shows that even when everything goes wrong, we can still humble ourselves, seek His face, and turn from our wicked ways.
God will certainly hear from Heaven and heal our land. When our heads are bowed toward the ground and our hearts toward the mountain from where our help comes, we can also sing loudly:
**“The battle belongs to the LORD.”**
The ultimate victory will be ours.

                                               PRAYER

Lord God enable us to recognize that you are the greatest and ultimate influencer of our lives and the world we live in. Let us not be carried away by the transient influences of your creation, Amen
