Break the Chain: Finding Freedom from Addictions

Bible Reading: :1st Peter 1: 13-25

Key verse 1st Peter 1: 15-16

“But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”

DEVOTION

When we hear the word "addiction," our minds immediately think of drugs or alcohol. However, addiction can be anything that takes control of our lives and leads us down a path of emptiness,
brokenness and misery. In 1 Peter 1:13–14, we are instructed to be alert and self-controlled, resisting the sinful desires of our former way of life. Our hearts and minds are to be fixed on the Lord. We read in verse 16, “for it is written: “Be Holy, because I am holy.”; therefore, we are called to live holy lives.
Breaking free from unhealthy habits or addictions is rarely easy. Many people want to change but become discouraged because they don't know where to begin. Peter, however, doesn't simply tell us to be holy, - he shows us how. He points us toward a transformed mind, and a renewed identity in Christ.
The road to freedom requires perseverance, patience, and complete dependence on God. Temptation, discouragement, and setbacks may come, but they do not define your journey. Stay rooted in God's Word, spend time in prayer and fellowship, God transforms you from the inside out. He renews your mind, strengthens your spirit, and loosens the grip of what once held you captive.
Keep your hope rooted in God and meditate on His Word. The same God who calls you to holiness also gives you strength to walk in it. In Christ, freedom is possible as you trust Him.

PRAYER

Dear Heavenly Father, help us lean on You for wisdom and strength to break free from the things that consume us. Renew our minds and spirits so our words and actions draw others closer to You. Amen.

Thought for the DAY

Freedom begins the moment we completely surrender what controls us to God and allow Him to transform our hearts.
