My tongue shall proclaim your righteousness

Bible Reading: Psalms 35: 18 to 28

Key Verse Vs 18

18  Then I will thank you in the assembly of your people; I will praise you before them all.

DEVOTION

In the final part of Psalm 35, King David finds himself in a very difficult situation. He is surrounded by people who are lying about him and trying to ruin his reputation.Biblical commentators believe David wrote this Psalm while he was being hunted by King Saul. During this time, David was an anointed but not-yet-crowned king living as a fugitive in the wilderness.
Even though David is hurting and feels the weight of this injustice, he makes a powerful choice. Instead of letting his heart fill with bitterness or focusing only on his pain, he decides to shift his focus toward God. He makes a public promise that he will not stay silent about God’s goodness, even when things look dark.
David points out the difference between the way his enemies talk and the way a person of faith should talk. His accusers use their speech to spread deceit and to make themselves feel important by tearing others down. David, however, asks God to step in and show what is true. He doesn't just want to be rescued for his own comfort; he wants everyone to see that God is fair and just. He realizes that when we are going through hard times, our gratitude can serve as a light for others who might also be struggling.
The passage concludes with David committing to speak about God’s righteousness and praise all day long. This means that proclaiming God’s character isn't just something he does once he wins; it is a habit he builds every single day. By choosing to talk about how right and faithful God is, David changes his own perspective. He stops seeing himself as a helpless victim of his circumstances and starts seeing himself as a messenger of hope. He shows us that the best way to handle unfair treatment is to keep our tongues busy with praise, trusting that God truly cares about our well-being and will always have the final word.

PRAYER

Gracious God, when we feel overwhelmed by challenges or unfair treatment, give us the strength to humble our hearts and seek Your peace

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Psalm 103:1-2: Praise the LORD, my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name. Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all His benefits.
