Resurrection: Victory over Death

Bible Reading:    Mark 16:1-11

Key Verse Vs 6

“Do not be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here.” (Mark 16:6)

DEVOTION

The time between Friday’s crucifixion and Sunday early morning, the gospel story stands in a quiet space- a stillness- between deep sorrow and wavering hope. The message of this verse breaks through fear with astonishing hope. The women came to the tomb expecting death, silence, and finality—but instead encountered the unexpected triumph of life. The resurrection is not merely a comforting idea; it is a divine announcement that death does not have the last word. As Augustine once wrote, “We are an Easter people, and Alleluia is our song.” This truth calls us to live not as prisoners of despair, but as witnesses of victory.
Often, like the women at the tomb, we approach life burdened by grief, confusion, or unmet expectations. Yet the angel’s words remind us that God is already at work beyond what we can see. Karl Barth described the resurrection as “God’s decisive ‘Yes’ to humanity,” overturning every “No” spoken by sin and death. This means that no situation is beyond redemption, no sorrow beyond comfort, and no ending truly final in Christ.
The empty tomb invites us to move from fear to faith. It challenges us to trust that even when God seems absent, He is powerfully present. The risen Christ goes ahead of us into every unknown tomorrow, calling us to follow with courage and know that we are victorious already. As we approach Easter morning, let us carry this assurance: we are not alone, nor are we forgotten. Christ goes before us into every uncertainty, every fear, every tomorrow. Our calling is not to have all the answers, but to go behind Him in hope. Jesus’ resurrection promises His children to be on the winning side always.

PRAYER

Risen Lord, calm my fears and help me trust in Your victory, walking in faith and hope, even when I don’t understand. Strengthen and renew my heart so I may live in the joy and promise of Your resurrection. Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Even in life’s quiet, uncertain moments, God is already at work—turning sorrow into hope and leading us toward new life. Be strong in faith and live with Christian hope.
