From brokenness to Hope

Bible Reading:     Lamentations 5:15-22

Key verse:  Vs 19

Vs 19  But you  O lord  reign for ever. Your throne endures to all generations.

DEVOTION

The book of lamentations  is a collection of five laments bewailing the fall of Jerusalem to the Babylonians. Jerusalem’s broken walls mirror the broken spirits of the community.  What was once thought to be strong and stable now looks empty and weak. They have lost hope  But  God does not abandon them fully. He wants them to recognize their loss, their weakness and same and turn to God. Faith always begins with reconciliation and  awareness of truth. Lamentations ends with the plaintive cry for restorations Vs  22 reads “ unless  you have utterly rejected us  and are angry with us beyond measure.
Even when they lament they have hope in their God. Vs 19 reads   O Lord reign for ever: your throne endures for generations. People are broken but God is sovereign and is willing to show compassion. Hope emerges when people acknowledge God's power and identity.  The last prayer in vs 22  is thus a powerful and honest appeal. “ restore us to yourself O Lord that we may be restored: renew our days as of old. When we are ready to surrender, obey and give up our false pride and selfish agendas and turn to God for help He will extend his ear to listen and will help us. Psalm 34 :18 reads ‘ The Lord is near to the broken hearted and those with a contrite spirit . Again psalm 147 :3 reads  he heals the broken hearted and binds up their wounds.
When we come out of our brokenness, turn our pain and  trauma in to prayer  and fix our eyes on the almighty all-powerful God  hope returns and light slowly creep in to the  darkness of our life. God can meet us in the middle of our brokenness and heal us if we can turn to him and totally yield to His will .

PRAYER

Lord we are broken and we are defeated by our own sinful agendas and plans. Let us turn our our hearts to you this morning and ask for  your mercy and grace. Restore our former joy and remind us that you are the eternal creator and ruler of the world
