God’s Care in the Midst of the Storm

Bible Reading: Acts 27:9-26

Key verse: “Do not be afraid… God has graciously given you the lives of all who sail with you.” Acts 27:24

DEVOTION

“God’s care in the midst of the storm” reminds us that God is present and faithful even when life feels overwhelming and out of our control. The storms of life—seasons of fear, loss, uncertainty, and waiting—often leave us searching for peace and clarity. Yet Scripture assures us, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit”(Psalm 34:18, NIV). God’s care does not always mean immediate deliverance from hardship, but it does mean His unfailing presence within it.
In Acts 27:9–26, Paul is caught in a violent storm where all hope of survival seems lost. For many days, “neither sun nor stars appeared,” and all hope of being saved was gradually abandoned (Acts 27:20, NIV). Yet God speaks through an angel, saying, “Do not be afraid” (Acts 27:24, NIV). God does not promise calm seas, but He promises protection, purpose, and life. Paul responds in faith, declaring, “I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me” (Acts 27:25, NIV). His trust becomes an anchor, bringing courage to everyone on board. This passage reminds us that storms do not cancel God’s promises. Even when life feels like it is breaking apart, God remains sovereign and faithful. Scripture declares, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you” (Isaiah 43:2, NIV). Faith becomes our anchor when control is lost, for “we have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure”(Hebrews 6:19, NIV).
This truth echoes in Footprints in the Sand, where God reveals that during the hardest moments, He was carrying His child. What feels like absence is often God’s deepest care. As Scripture encourages us, “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7, NIV).
God may not stop the storm immediately—but He will never stop carrying us.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, help me trust your care when life feels out of control. Give me peace and faith in Your promises. We are your salvation lord. We are your servants, and we humbly bow down before you Lord. Thank you for your great love and blessing over our lives. We pray that you would open the right doors for our lives and for our loved ones, that you would close the wrong doors and protect us from those we need to walk away from. We pray that you carry us through our difficulties and that you chase away our enemies. We pray that you would make our way purposeful and our footsteps firm out of your goodness and love. Give us a heart of wisdom to hear your voice, and make us strong by your favor and grace. Lord, strengthen me to follow you even when temptations call. Help me hide your word in my heart and live in obedience. In the name I say Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

God may not remove the storm, but He will never remove His care.
