God who gives promises of possibilities

Bible Reading: :Luke 1:5-23

Key verse

"But the angel said to him: 'Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John.'" (Luke 1:13)

DEVOTION

Zechariah and Elizabeth, a couple beyond their childbearing years, marked by the sorrow of barrenness. Despite their righteousness, their fervent prayers for a child had seemingly gone unanswered for decades, settling into what felt like a permanent impossibility. Yet, God, in His infinite wisdom and perfect timing, chose this very scenario to display His power. In the temple, the angel Gabriel appeared to Zechariah, announcing that his "prayer has been heard", a prayer perhaps long forgotten in its intensity, but never by God. Elizabeth would bear a son, John, who would prepare the way for the Messiah.
Zechariah’s immediate response was human doubt, rooted in his advanced age and Elizabeth's barrenness. He focused on biological how rather than the divine Who. As a consequence of his unbelief, Zechariah was rendered mute, a powerful, living sign that God's promises are not contingent on our comprehension or perceived feasibility. This account is a profound reminder that our God operates beyond human limitations. He specializes in opening doors we considered permanently sealed, in breathing life into long-dormant hopes, and in bringing forth fruit where barrenness once reigned.
What impossibilities weigh on your heart today? What dreams or prayers have you shelved, convinced they are unreachable? This passage invites us to lay them before the God who turns the impossible into glorious reality. He hears, remembers, and acts according to His sovereign will, making a way where there is no way, all for His glory.

PRAYER

Gracious God, you are the Alpha and Omega, the One who makes all things possible. We confess our tendency to limit Your power with our doubts and fears. Stir within us a Zechariah-like awe, transforming our skepticism into unwavering faith. Help us to trust that Your promises are true, regardless of our present circumstances, and empower us to live in expectation of Your miraculous hand. Amen.

Thought for the DAY

God's promises are not bound by human limitations; what seems impossible to us is possible with God.
