Rooted in Christ, growing in Grace

Bible Reading: : Colossians 1:1–14

Key verse

“So that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God.” — Colossians 1:10

DEVOTION

Paul’s prayer for the believers in Colossae reminds us that the Christian life is not just about believing, it’s about growing. We are called to be “rooted in Christ” and to keep “growing in the knowledge of God.” Like plants that thrive only when their roots go deep, our faith flourishes when we remain connected to Christ through prayer, His Word, and obedience.
In Colossians 1:10, Paul describes the life God desires for us: one that bears fruit, pleases Him, and grows continually in grace. Spiritual growth isn’t instant; it’s a lifelong process of becoming more like Jesus through His power working in us.
Jesus illustrated this truth in the Parable of the Sower (Luke 8:4–15). The seed that fell on rocky ground sprouted quickly but withered because it had no roots. It represents people who receive God’s Word with joy but fall away when difficulties come. For our faith to endure, we must let God’s Word sink deeply into our hearts, removing the “rocks” of pride, distraction, and unbelief.
To be rooted in Christ is to draw strength from Him every day, to depend on His wisdom, His peace, and His presence. To grow in grace means allowing His Spirit to change us little by little into His likeness. When we remain steadfast in Him, we bear fruit that honors God and blesses others.

PRAYER

Gracious Lord, thank You for calling me to grow in Your grace. Help me to stay rooted in You so that my faith stands firm through every season. Remove anything in my heart that keeps Your Word from taking root. Teach me to live a life that pleases You, bears fruit, and reflects Your love. Strengthen me to walk daily in Your wisdom and truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
