Be Courageous: God is with you

Bible Reading: : Joshua 1:1–9

Key verse

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” — Joshua 1:9

DEVOTION

The book of Joshua opens with a moment of transition and uncertainty. Moses, Israel’s great leader, has died, and now Joshua must lead God’s people into the Promised Land. Standing before the Jordan River, with challenges ahead, Joshua receives God’s unchanging promise: “As I was with Moses, so I will be with you.”
The name Joshua means “The Lord is salvation.” Just as Joshua led Israel into the land of promise, Jesus (whose name comes from the same root) leads us into eternal life. God’s words to Joshua came during change and fear, a reminder that His purpose continues even when seasons end. When the Israelites faced the flooded Jordan River, they had to step forward in faith before it parted. Likewise, we often meet our “Jordan Rivers”, the problems that seem too big, but faith in God opens the way.
God promised Joshua success, not through strength or skill, but through obedience to His Word: “Meditate on it day and night, then you will be prosperous and successful.” (Joshua 1:8). True courage comes when we trust and obey God’s Word daily.
This message is echoed in Isaiah 41:10: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” When we remember that God is with us, fear loses its power. Courage is not the absence of fear; it is faith in God’s presence. The same God who strengthened Joshua stands with us today, guiding us through every river and every battle.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for the promise of Your presence in every season of life. When I face fear, help me to remember that You are with me. Strengthen my heart to be bold, obedient, and faithful to Your Word. Teach me to trust You in every challenge and to move forward with courage. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
