He will come again in Glory

Bible Reading:   Acts 1:6–11

Key verse: Verse: 11
"Who also said, 'Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.'"

DEVOTION

The ascension of Jesus must have been one of the most perplexing moments for His disciples. As Jesus was taken up, the disciples stood gazing, lost in that moment. A cloud of disappointment may even have been visible on their faces, prompting the angels to remind them: “He will come again in glory.”
Hope is one of the most powerful forces that drives humanity. We wake up each day with expectations. As Christians, the essence of our hope is that life on this earth is temporary, and our permanent life is in eternity. The sorrows and pain we experience here are momentary. We believe that the whole earth will witness the second coming of Jesus—that is when our faith will be fulfilled.
Matthew 24:30 says, "Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory."
If we truly believe in His second coming, then we must live in a state of spiritual readiness. No one knows the time or the season when Jesus will return. We must be prepared to meet Him—like the ten virgins in Jesus's parable who kept oil in their lamps—and as a Church, like a glorious and holy bride when He appears in the clouds, as described in Ephesians 5:27.
Let us remain faithful, holy, and watchful—so that when He appears in the clouds, we will be ready to meet Him face to face.

PRAYER

 Heavenly Father,
Thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus Christ, to save us. Help me to live each day with joyful expectation of His return. Keep me holy and blameless, ready to meet Him in the clouds and enter into eternal glory.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

"The end will come with the return of Jesus Christ… That is why a Christian can be an optimist. That is why a Christian can smile in the midst of all that is happening… We know what the end will be: the triumph of the Lord Jesus Christ." – Billy Graham
