STAY ROOTED IN GOD’S WORD

Bible Reading:  2 Timothy 3:10-17

Key verse: Vs  Vs 16 - All Scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching,
rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness

DEVOTION

It takes real courage for a person to stand for Christ in the present world we live in today. To practice a godly life in a godless society and to be rooted in God’s word is gained only from the Word of God.  Everything around us is changing - society, education, morality, values, culture and even the interpretation of the Scripture have changed drastically.
Apostle Paul’s 2 letter to Timothy was written when Paul was awaiting execution in Rome. These are the final words of Paul at the end of his ministry and his life. Paul has only hours left but Timothy has years left to minister. Sitting in a dark dungeon awaiting death, loneliness crept in and Paul took his pen and wrote to his friend Timothy. Paul’s chief concern is for the welfare of Timothy and for the success of his ministry in Ephesus without drowning down in faith which was imparted to him from infancy. Few words of encouragement from the mentor was needed to boost the confidence in young Timothy even if it meant persecution.
In 2 Timothy 1:6 Paul reminds Timothy to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. Paul led Timothy to Christ.  He taught him by both word and example. Paul tells Timothy to continue in the things that have been taught and learned during his ministry as all Scripture is given by the inspiration of God and it is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. Every Word is inspired and breathed out by God. The breath of God is in every Word. It is the divine truth. Paul tell Timothy to preach the Word all the time as it is the true command.
Jesus promised, I will bring all things to your remembrance. I will teach you all things. I will lead you into all truth. I will show you things to come. This is the promise of divine inspiration. No message of Scripture is a matter of one’s own inspiration. It is not the product of men but men moved by the Holy Spirit with the inspiration of God.  God is the author of every Scripture.
Hebrews 1:1 states “In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at  many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by  his Son.” God has revealed Himself in the Old Testament through the prophets and the Gospels record, God speaking through His Son – Jesus Christ. In fact, about 4000 times in the Bible, the writers claim to be writing the Word of God. What is the benefit of having the Word of God? It can fully equip us for every good work if you love, honor, believe and study the Word of God. It is profitable for reproof and correction. It has the authority to rebuke and correct us. It tells us how to live in true righteousness. The Scripture makes you complete and thoroughly equipped for every good work.  It needs commitment, strong faith and awareness of the Scripture to preach from the Word of God as it is the greatest treasure apart from God Himself what we have in our hands.  May we realize that knowing you comes through your Word.

PRAYER

Father God, we thank you for your divine Scripture.  Help us to live a godly life as per your Word.  We pray that you equip us to pass on faith and teachings of the Scripture to our future generations, in Jesus name, we pray- Amen!
