The wisdom of the cross-Following Christ in Humility.

Bible Reading:  1 Corinthians   1:18-31

Key verse:  Let the one who boast, boast in the Lord Vs 31.

DEVOTION

The message of the cross is foolish to the world but   to those who believe it is the power and wisdom of God. In today’s devotion we concentrate on the humility of Christ and what it means to His disciples. To walk in humility involves total surrender of our pride, ego, self-projections, and craziness for power and means of attaining power by any means even at the cost of harming and destroying others. Those who want to project oneself and depend on self-reliance and self praises cannot fall in the category of a disciple what Christ entitles. Paul here challenges both the intellectual pride of the Greeks and the religious pride of the Jews. The heart of the gospel is Christ crucified and His love for humanity. Humility begins in one when he/she begins to boast on the cross and cross alone.

Humility begins when we discard worldly wisdom and turn to Godly wisdom and absolute faith. The cross reminds us of that God always chooses the lowly and bring down the proud and the arrogant. In our discipleship God only want us to surrender and obey him. Humility is not thinking less of us but thinking of ourselves less often. For us to boast or live is only Christ and it is by his grace that we live every day. The wisdom of the cross is to walk in a unique way avoiding the paths we chose, the paths of pride, selfishness, and ego-centered life.  Christ is exhorting us every day to accept his cross. deny ourselves and follow him. Let us not boast in the wisdom of the world but in the power of his love. Amen

PRAYER

Lord, transform us by your spirit to walk humbly, do justice, show kindness, and become a  better person.
