Wisdom for a Pure Life

Bible Reading:  Proverbs 20: 1-13

Key verse:  Vs 7:   The righteous man leads a blameless life, blessed life, blessed are his children after him.

DEVOTION

Today’s meditation is from the book of Proverbs. The book of Proverbs is a rich source of wisdom and life guiding principles. How can I gain wisdom for a pure life? Understand the values of wisdom. Have fear of the Lord. Seek the advice of the wise.
The English writer and poet T. S. Elliot once asked “where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge? “ Where is the knowledge we have lost in information”? We all are living in the information age and especially sum total of human information currently doubles approximately every year and a half. Yet our human kind lack wisdom at certain times.
Proverbs 20 offers a collection of wise sayings, emphasizing the importance of integrity and respecting authority. I t also highlights the consequences of laziness, gossiping and other negative behaviors, while praising honesty, good character and wisdom. The chapter underscores that a righteous person who walks in integrity will be blessed and their children will follow in their footsteps. Proverbs 20 calls believers to walk in integrity, self control, trust in God’s sovereignty and live with diligence.
Biblical wisdom is defined as “the wisdom that comes from above” (James 3:17). It is characterized by purity, Peace-loving, gentleness, mercy, good fruit, impartiality and sincerity”. In the Bible “pure” doesn’t just refer to physical cleanliness, but to moral and spiritual purity. It means being morally clean, holy, wholesome and good.
Jesus’ teaching on wisdom emphasizes that true wisdom is shown through one’s action and a God centered perspective. He suggested that seeking wisdom from God is a key to gaining it and that wisdom is ultimately about living a life that reflects God’s character and principles.
Fear of the Lord is not just respecting the wisdom – the law – the covenant, rather practicing it in the daily experiences of life.

PRAYER

Lord, help me to seek your wisdom and discernment in all my decision. Grant me ears to hear your voice and eyes to see your guidance. Father, help me to walk in integrity and live a life that is pleasing to you. May my actions and words reflect your   righteousness and be a blessing to others.
