A New Song of Deliverance and Testimony

Bible Reading: Psalms 40:1-10

DEVOTION

Key verse: Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods. (Ps. 40:4)

In a world of same-day Amazon deliveries, rapid innovation, and high-speed processors, the Bible reminds us of the power of patient trust in the LORD. In psalms 40 we read the testimony of David. He declares that deliverance from trouble doesn’t come through haste, but through patiently waiting on God.
In verse 2, David describes being brought out of a horrible pit and miry clay. He wasn’t just stuck in the pit, but he is drenched in the mess of his circumstances. It’s also a description of those instances in our lives, when we’re not only failing inwardly, but our scars and struggles are visible to others. Friends, colleagues, roommates mock us for our scars and pain. But that is not the end of the story.
The passage continues to say, “He set my feet upon a rock and established my steps.” OUR LORD doesn’t just deliver us, but he goes the extra mile and establishes us! Then in verse 3, David continues to say, “He has put a new song in my mouth, Praise to our God; many will see it and fear and will trust in the LORD.” It reveals that, every hard season in our lives has a greater purpose. God can use them all to display His glory! Through testimony of these experiences, others may come to trust the LORD.
The next time you’re in the “pit”, remember this: for the children of God, the ending is always victory! He puts a NEW SONG in our mouth, not to hum quietly, but to sing boldly! That others might hear, see, and believe. Our lives are for the glory of God.

“This is my story, this is my song.
Praising my Savior all the day long”

PRAYER
Father, I pray for the strength to wait on you with patience and trust. Your Word promises, that those who wait on the LORD will be renew their strength and soar like the eagles. Make my life be a testimony of Your grace, and today, give me a new song to sing boldly. Amen.
