Assurance of Faith Beyond Sight

Bible Reading:   John 20:19-29

Key Verse: Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!” Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (John 20:28-29)

DEVOTION

How often do we doubt God? Many times, when things go differently than the way we expect it to, we become disappointed and begin to doubt if God is really there. However, each trial we face is evidence of God’s presence. Throughout each step of our lives, God ensures that he is there for us, assuring us faith beyond sight. Even though we may fail to see God’s unwavering love for us, he is always with us and will continue to bless us each step of the way.
Faith is a central pillar in a Christian’s life. Although we claim to fully place our trust in the Lord, it’s worth taking a moment to reflect – do we truly mean it? When life is going as expected, we praise God for his greatness, but the minute something goes wrong we are quick to turn away from him.
John 20:19-29 describes Jesus' visit to the disciples after his resurrection. The disciples had told Thomas that they had seen the Lord, however, Thomas didn’t believe it. He believed only when he saw Jesus with his own eyes and felt the wounds on his hands. However, Jesus did not punish Thomas for questioning his resurrection. Instead, he blessed Thomas and showed him how his doubt created a barrier in his faith with the Lord. Trust is the foundation in strengthening our relationship with God.
As Christians we will face many struggles because being a Christian is not easy. There will be situations in our life where people and circumstances will make us question our faith. Yet, as Christians we should proudly proclaim our faith! God sent his son, Jesus Christ, into this world to save each of us from our sins. He sacrificed his life for us, giving us redemption and a second chance to return to our Lord who is waiting for us with open arms. He has a purpose for each and everyone of us and is ready to guide us in our spiritual journey. Our responsibility is to take that first step in fully trusting in him.

PRAYER

Dear Heavenly Father, I pray that you allow our doubt, fears, and worries to be washed away and help us to grow stronger in faith. Please forgive us for all the times that we have doubted you. Help us to remember that you have a purpose for each one of us, and that with you by our side, we have nothing to fear. Thank you for your continuing guidance and blessings within our lives. Bless and protect everyone in your mighty hands. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
