SERVING AND LOVING ONE ANOTHER WITH DEVOTION

Bible Reading: Romans 12: 6-13

Key Verse:  V11. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor serving the Lord.

DEVOTION

Paul's exhortation to people in Rome, to the use gifts,  God has  granted to individual  members of the church, to serve the community  and glorifying God.
The idea is related in the ancient Greek  for spiritual gifts  which means a gift of grace. Spiritual gifts are given at the discretion of the holy spirit.  It is not given according to the merit, but God chooses to give them as needed.  Having given the gifts of grace, let us use them among brethren.  Those who get gift of prophecy, keep prophesying  in proportion to the faith, gift of ministry - let them use them in ministering, he who teaches in teaching, he who exhorts in exhortation, he who gives can give with liberality,  he who leads may do it with diligence, and he who shows mercy with cheerfulness.
Apostle continued to tell that,  love be without hypocrisy, without any masquerade of evil in  mind. Always cling to what is good and abhor what is evil. Be kind and display genuine affection to each other.  Christian believers are called  to practice warm relations and good manners to each other. Paul told them  again that we serve God rejoicing in hope, not rejoicing in the outcome.  We are commanded to fulfill hope, patience and steadfast character with an eye toward heaven.
Trials and tribulations do not excuse  lack of love in the body of  Christ or lack of willingness to do his work.
Our care and concerns for one another will demonstrate,  by providing help for the needy, and either by visiting them or inviting them to us.  Greek word for hospitality is literally translated as “love for strangers” . The idea is to pursue people  you don't know with hospitality. This is love in action, not just feelings.

   PRAYER

Lord Jesus, we are all recipients of various gifts according to  grace. May we use them  for the betterment of the brethren and to glorify you and the Father.
Let our love be genuine and without hypocrisy.  Help us to practice true hospitality.
Amen.

Thought for the day

Difference and distribution of God's spiritual gifts are tied to His grace , not to our worthiness or goodness. God wants us to work out each gift in a way that serves body of Christ and glorifying Him.
