Trust in the Providence of God

1 Peter 5:7-11
Vs. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Life is like a rollercoaster ride. It has its ups and downs and twists and turns. At some points, the ride is so slow you can feel the stillness in the air. But there are also moments that can feel completely out of control. How often do we experience bouts of fear, helplessness, or uncertainty and all we want to do is make the ride stop? If you are like me, not having control over certain aspects of your life, can cause havoc on your emotional and psychological well-being. Verse 7 states, “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”   In the previous verse (1 Peter 5:6), Peter commands us to humble ourselves before the Lord. Casting our worries on Him is a way of humbling ourselves before Him.

Despite all the trials and tribulations we experience in our personal or professional lives, we must trust that God is in control of our rollercoaster. As followers of Jesus, we can live with the promise that God, in His kindness, will use these things to strengthen us and produce fruit. Because of Jesus, we have eternal glory that brings us hope for tomorrow and peace for today.  Setbacks in life are temporary. I often have to remind myself and others, “This too shall pass.”

Prayer
Be strong and courageous. Do not fear…for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you. (Deuteronomy 31:6)
