 Women: Defenders of Faith

1 Samuel 1: 20-28.
V 27 “I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him”.

Faith is complete trust in God, where we abandon all reliance on our own efforts and put our full confidence in him, his word, and his promises. As Christians, we know that faith is foundational to our relationship with God and we can trace that theme throughout the Scripture. We see in 1 Samuel chapter one that Hannah was in deep misery for not being able to conceive and cried to God for a son. After receiving priest Eli’s blessing of “Go in peace and may the God of Israel grant you what you have asked of him” (1 Samuel 1: 17), Hannah was no longer depressed and trusted that her prayer will be answered by the most awesome God. Soon after, she was able to conceive and gave birth to a son whom she named Samuel which means “Because I asked the Lord for him” (1 Samuel 1: 20). Here, we see Hannah’s strong faith and its fruition.
“And without faith, it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him” (Hebrews 11:6). Faith does not need to see to believe but requires that we live our lives as if every promise of God is true, whether we see the evidence or not. Jesus emphasizes the importance of having faith in Luke 17:6, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and get planted in the sea’, and it will obey you”. Living by faith requires complete acknowledgment of our minuteness in relation to God almighty. A life of faith starts in our hearts and overflows in all aspects of our life. Faith can tolerate pain, shame, and disgrace for the glory of God. Faith does not mature by our own works, but instead by our constant leaning on God. Women are defenders of the faith and have a great responsibility to pass their faith from generation to generation. Our grandmothers and mothers from many generations have lived a life of faith and have passed it to us so that we can do the same.

Prayer
O’ Lord, we submit ourselves to you, please forgive us of all our sins, tune our heart and mind to you. Help us to completely trust and depend on you in everything and share our faith with others.
