The Importance of Prayer
“Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the Lord.” 2 Kings 20: 5
In Hezekiah’s recovery life, we can identify the great mercy of God. The healing sacrament is identified in which Hezekiah is granted more life. In verse 2, the earnest prayer of Hezekiah is seen in which he prays with a passion. He asks the Almighty Lord for healing because he didn’t want to die so soon. The Lord then granted Hezekiah an additional 15 years to life, which was an extraordinary gift from above. Most importantly the Lord heard Hezekiah’s prayer, which had granted him the gift. Despite the confirmation of this gift, Hezekiah wanted a further sign to show that he would be healed. God showed a miraculous sign by making the shadow on the sundial move backward rather than forward. This gave for more time in the day just as God gave Hezekiah more time in life.
In our day to day walk with God we should understand that prayer is the most powerful instrument. In Hezekiah’s life we saw the importance of prayer and its significance. As Philippians 4, 6-7 says “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” We should present all our needs and desires into the hands of God, because those prayers are always heard. God always has the door open for us and all we have to do is reach out to him because that’s the only way we can have a special connection with him. However we shouldn’t just have a time of situational prayer, which is when we pray only when we need help, but we must pray to God even during good times and when we are succeeding. We must all understand prayer is the key to unlocking happiness in life.
Heavenly Father-thank you for the gift of prayer. Please allow us to continuously pray to you and to keep that special connection. Give us the strength to follow your right hand and to follow your mighty plan you have set for us. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
