 The Lord, My Stronghold

Psalm 27
The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm: 27:1

David expressed great confidence in the Lord: because the Lord was his light, salvation and stronghold. With what a lively faith David triumphs in God, glories in his Holy name, and in the interest, He had in him. “The Lord is my light”. He is our source of light. That is, He guides and leads us. Darkness is the emblem of distress, trouble, perplexity, and sorrow; light is the emblem of the opposite of these. God furnished us with such light that these troubles disappeared and make our ways bright and happy. "The Lord is my light and my salvation." Here is personal interest, "my light," "my salvation"; the soul is assured of it, and therefore declares it boldly. “Whom shall I fear?” Here he speaks with triumphant confidence. Compare Rom 8:31. If God is on our side, or is for us, we can have no apprehension of danger. He is abundantly able to protect us, and we may confidently trust in Him. No one needs any better security against the objects of fear or dread than the conviction that God is his friend. “The Lord is the stronghold of my life”. God will support and strengthen our life. Or, in other words, He keeps us alive. In itself life is feeble and is easily crushed by trouble and sorrow; but as long as God is our strength, there is nothing to fear. He is not only the protector of our exposed life, who keeps us from being slain, but the strength of our frail weak life, who keeps us from fainting, sinking, and dying. God, who is a believer's light, is the strength of our life, not only by whom, but in whom we live and move. In God therefore let us strengthen ourselves. “Of whom shall I be afraid?” No one has the power to take life away while He defends us. God is to those who put their trust in Him a stronghold or fortress, and they are safe. David was assured of good success in all his dangers and that his salvation was surely laid up in God, he did not fear the tyranny of his enemies. God is to those who put their trust in Him a stronghold or fortress, and they are safe.

Prayer
Our Lord, You are our strength and our rock. With You, we will be confident and strong. We bring our prayers to You with confidence, in the name of our Lord Jesus. Amen
Thought of the day

With God as our source of strength, we need not fear anything on earth.
