Dignity of Labor and Divine Commission

Colossians 3:23-24
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”

Just imagine in real life if we had been working for the Lord. How would we have conducted our work? We would have given our best without looking at the pay we receive because we know that the reward Lord has prepared for us is beyond the monetary value. We might never have never compared our rewards with that of others. Working for the Lord is a beautiful experience where we would enjoy every moment of our work.

One of the famous quotes by Mother Teresa is “I see Jesus in every human being. I say to myself, this is hungry Jesus, I must feed him. This is sick Jesus. This one has leprosy or gangrene; I must wash him and tend to him. I serve because I love Jesus.” If we were able to look at those we serve and see Jesus in them, how different our outlook toward the work we do would be. Unfortunately, given our work situations, we might not be able to experience this joy. Life will never offer favorable situations for us, yet we should be able to work as if serving Christ.

As Christians, we need to rise above our situations and spread the peace and joy offered by Jesus to the world. May Lord help us give our best contribution to the world.

Prayer
Abba Father, help us give our best in the responsibilities given to us in our day-to-day lives, in our work, and in our church. Amen

Elizabeth Jacob
