“Equipping to be Carriers of the Gospel”

Psalms 42
V1and 11” As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God”.
We don’t know who exactly wrote this song. It says ‘a psalm of the decedents of Korah” it may have been one of the Sons of Korah. They were a gifted family of Levites appointed to be musicians for the Lord during the reign of King David. Whoever it is, he was going through one of the hardest times in his life. And he shows us how to get God's help in the hard times.
First: We must call on the Lord. The author started this Psalm with prayer. And thats the best place for us to start when we feel overwhelmed in life. The psalm starts with the verse “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. Think about being that thirsty, so thirsty and all you can think about is water.
Are you thirsty? What is it that we thirst for?
The drink that Jesus offers us is the Holy Spirit. Christ offers satisfaction for our thirst. But to be satisfied by it, we have to be thirsty for the right thing. It is simply God himself. He made us for himself. For fellowship with him through his Spirit. That is what we were designed for. That is a need as basic to a human being as water or food. Jesus said “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink.  Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” John 7: 37,38 Jesus satisfies the thirst of everyone who comes to him – no matter who, no matter from what background, no matter what lifestyle they have previously lived. If you are thirsty, then come to Christ and he will give you living water to drink – his Holy Spirit, who will satisfy and quench your spiritual thirst. He will satisfy our deepest longings. Thirst for Him, and then accept his gifts. Jesus said, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” So once you receive the Holy Spirit you have to obey his command which is known as the Great Commission: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you” Matt 28: 19-20.
Prayer
Father the truth is your word and the light is our understanding of it. We cry out for an understanding of the word as we read it. We pray the light, breaking out of these promises, to encourage and strengthen our weak hearts.
