Cost of Discipleship

16 What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, “I will live in them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

The apostle Paul cautions Corinthians against mingling with unbelievers. There is danger that communion with bad people will damage spirituality of good people. So Paul says we must not join with idolatrous service. Their false worship must not confound together the table of Lord and table of devil. Believers of Jesus Christ creating light in the world but wicked people creating darkness.

Christ and Beliar are contrary to each other. They have opposite interest and designs. As a temple of God they are dedicated to the service of God. God has promised to walk with them, if it happens so we should have the right relationship with Christ. There is no compromise between temple of God and people of idols. As a true temple of God we should keep away from all idolatrous. As a disciple of Christ we have to understand what is an idol and living God. We have no right to pollute sanctuary of God. Remaining in this worldly values we should keep us away from the influence of evil doers, separation means not a life of solitude but this is for the formation of a better society or for Kingdom of God. It's formation happens only through Christian discipleship.

An idolater never worships the true God. If we want to worship God, we have to give cost IE; we have to live a life of Holiness, sacrifice, compassion, love etc. If we want to be a true disciple of Jesus Christ we should be a living temple of God, for that purpose our word and deed should go hand in hand. The experience of the cross and Holy temple experience are necessities to become a Christian disciple.

PRAYER

Father God, we thank you for the New Year. May this be a time for us to renew our spiritual discipline, discipleship and the family-life, feeling confident that on the day of Jesus Christ, God will bring our life to its consummation. Amen

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Christian discipleship is not a cheap matter, it demands costly or the cross experience.
