The Certainty of God’s promise
Hebrews 6:13-14“When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself, saying, “I will surely bless you and give you many descendants”. As so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised. Hebrews 6:13-14
When we receive a vision from God, a promise for our future, there is often a waiting period. This time is difficult because our human nature yearns for “instant results”. We always look for instant answers and results. But there are great lessons learned when we wait on the lord. They are lessons of faith and patience. It is in the time of uncertainty that we learn to lean on the certainty of God’s promises.
Abraham was promised blessings and many descendents. However, his waiting time was long and torturous. It almost seemed impossible that the promise from God would come true, for “Sarah was old and worn out” (Genesis 18:12). Abraham waited patiently, and in doing so he became the father of faith. At the end, he did receive what was promised, for God’s promises never fail.
God’s promises are true and certain; we don’t need to wonder if he will change his plans. The promises of God for us are not just about our lives and blessings in this world, but also in eternity. Our hope is in Christ and he is the anchor for our soul, and we can be firm and secure in him (Hebrews 6:19). Our whole life is a waiting period for the promise of eternal life; let us hold firmly to the certainty of God’s promise.
Do we really believe in God’s promises? Many a time when we are given a time to wait we often complain, ask questions and even murmur. If we believe in God’s promise, we just have to wait for God’s time. God has a time to implement His plans and he will implement that at the best time. Let us depend on the certainty of God’s promises.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, we often lose our patience when we wait on you. Help us to be like Abraham who waited patiently for your promise to come true. We love you. Amen.
