The Divine Nature in Our Human Life.

“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by His own glory and goodness” (2 Pt. 1:3)

There are amazing truths in this epistle of St. Peter to Christians being threatened by false teaching from within their own.  This truth, we must embrace daily.
Partakers of Divine Nature:  The Holy Scripture affirms that we are partakers of the divine nature as the children of God. This does not mean we become divine, but that we have received God’s own Spirit and are now sons and daughters of God (Jn. 1.12).  We are being conformed to the likeness of Christ and the image of God in us is being renewed in true righteousness.  How amazing this is. According to St. Peter this status is to escape from the corruption in the world caused by evil desires (v. 4).  There is nothing good in us from the day we are born, and yet, God’s love is so great, he bestows upon us His Spirit to make us His children.  For all have fallen short of HIS GLORY, but not all have been forsaken.
Attainment to this Divine Nature: Another truth is that God helps us to attain this divine nature.  The virtues listed here are faith, goodness, knowledge, self- control, perseverance, godliness, mutual affection and finally LOVE.  These lists of Christian virtues often begin with faith and end with the most important one, love, the culmination of God’s work in us. Without faith, we cannot love.  These virtues will need our efforts but they are always blessed by His love pushing us forward to become His children.  Peter says if we lack these qualities, then we forget we have been cleansed.  Let’s look into our lives for these qualities, and ask our Father who gives to his children better than any father ever could.  We can never lose our Heavenly Father’s love.  It is not based on what we’ve done.  He loves because of who he is. Remember that His Power + His Promises make us His Partakers.  His Power never fades and His Promises never break.
To be effective witnesses at work, home, school, we are challenged to take part daily in His Divine nature by adding to the virtues.  The more we surrender to God’s leading, then the less time we have to spend seeking His will.  Our true human nature can never live to its full potential without Him. True change in our world happens only with Power from the Trinity’s Kingdom.

Prayer: - Lord, help us to be part of your divine nature to change ourselves and to transform the world around us. Amen.
