The power to overcome sin and death
Rom. 6. 1-11

“For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his.” (Rom. 6: 5)

The power of sin can never be underestimated.  It’s far more destructive than a hurricane.
God tells us in His word, of something that is more powerful. Grace. God’s wisdom on His Power overcoming sin’s power is developed further in this passage to the believers in Rome.  Paul is unraveling the path to eternal life.  God is revealing to us the way back to Him.

We don't rule sin, sin rules us: We must always be on guard.  The devil our adversary, God says, prowls around.  So God warns us to always be self-controlled and alert. (1 Peter 5) He prowls around looking for his prey; so be on guard and pray always.  The moment we let our guard down and think sin doesn’t rule us, that’s when we fall.

God alone is the deliverer; our part is depending  on Him.
We must fully rely on Him, His Grace, His presence.  The moment we trust our own abilities or our own merit, we will fall. Sin has enslaved all of humanity; not just some.  Because He delivers us like the children of Israel from the slavery in Egypt, He alone will get the glory.  “For when we died with Christ, we were set free from the power of sin.”  Sin has no power in us because the new power of resurrection is at work in us.  It is a Holy power.  It must not be abused (“keep on sinning”). Like the Israelites who headed in a new direction, God puts us on a new direction towards eternal life by the power of the resurrection.  Like them in the desert, we have to keep traveling and not grumble but give thanks daily to the Deliverer.  We have to do our part on the journey and remain watchful until we reach the land Christ promised.(In my Father’s house are many mansions)
Without this deliverance, this new direction, we will not inherit eternal life. In this world there are many ways to go forward; but God sent us His Son as the way. This way never leads anywhere but back to Him.  God didn’t just take the Israelites from Egypt to the brink of the desert and say “do your best.”  He was with them daily; guiding them daily; giving bread daily.  When we pray “Give us this day…” we must never forget each day, He is with us all the way to eternity.

Prayer: Almighty God, save from the power of sin and death. Let us resurrect with you to keep oursleves away from sin.In Christ's name, Amen.
