SOURCE OF ETERNAL LIFE
John 6:52 -58
Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. (John 6:53)
Jesus is speaking of eating His Flesh and drinking His Blood to the Jews after the feeding of the five thousand. Some people wanted Jesus to do this miracle regularly, just as Moses did for them in the wilderness. Jesus says if we don’t eat His flesh and drink his blood, we are dead and if we do, we will not only live but also have eternal life. It was hard for the Jews to accept ,as they could not even have any blood left in the meat of the animals they ate.

The flesh and blood that sustain life: To eat Jesus’ flesh and drink His blood means to give ourselves fully to Christ, accept His sacrificial death on the cross as being for us and believe that we will have life, not only now, but even after death and we will be raised up on the last day. The bread,“ the true food" which Jesus gives is himself, his own flesh and blood, “ the true drink" is his body which was broken on Golgotha for our salvation, which “truly” sustains life, beyond death, to eternal life, which is from Father God Himself who sent Jesus. There is no alternative method. Eternal life is a promise to anyone who accepts Jesus as Lord and Savior {Jn 3:16} and extends beyond grave. We will not face eternal separation from God (Hell), but will walk in resurrected life with Jesus in Heaven when we die {Jn 5:24 }.

Realize the cost before eating and drinking: Eating the flesh and drinking the blood of Christ is believing which leads to abiding (residing) in Christ, and He in us like the vine and its branches. Jesus links His claim to be “true” food and drink that would not make us hunger or thirst to His previous claims to be God and to have come down to the earth, sent by the Father from above .The Father’s life extends to and through the Son to those who will partake of the Son’s flesh and blood, as "this is the bread which came down from heaven". He summarized; "not as the fathers ate' manna' and died, he who eats this bread shall live forever". This call is for sleepers to come to life in Christ, and live on! Jesus wants us to realize the cost and give ourselves completely to Him and take Him fully into ourselves. Just because believing is easy for us, it doesn’t make it cheap for God. Eucharist is a sign, for the forgiveness of the sins of the whole world, partaking in it in faith, is a means of communion with the risen Christ, his risen life and abiding in Him.

Prayer: Lord, grant that the your Holy Body and Blood may be for me unto healing, protection, the Communion of the Holy Spirit...and for Life Eternal. Amen.
