Walk with Christ in Passionate Love

Bible Reading:   John 21:15–19

Key Verse:  30

“Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” (John 21:16)

DEVOTION

Peter was grieved when Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love Me?” This grief was not to condemn him, but to reach the deepest part of his heart. The Lord gently touched the very place of Peter’s failure—his denial—and restored him through love. The Greek words reveal a movement from agape (divine, sacrificial love) to phileo (human affection), showing how Jesus meets us even in our weakness and lifts us higher.
Even today, Christ speaks to us through His Word—correcting, refining, and restoring. His question echoes in our hearts: “Do you love Me more than these?” More than our ambitions, relationships, or even ministry? Love for Christ is not measured by words but by obedience (John 14:15). True service flows not from duty or recognition, but from deep love for Him.
Peter’s story is our story. We too have failed, doubted, and fallen short. Yet, like Peter, we are pursued—not rejected—by a loving Savior. There is no harsh rebuke, only a restoring call: “Follow Me.”
As Oswald Chambers reminds us, “If our motive is love for Christ, no ingratitude can hinder us from serving.”
Let us not compare ourselves with others, but fix our eyes on Jesus. Passionate love for Christ alone sustains lifelong discipleship.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, search my heart. Restore my love where it has grown weak. Help me to follow You with a passionate, obedient love. Amen.
