The angel who sees and sustains

Bible Reading:  Genesis 16:7-13

Key Verse:  13

“You are the God who sees me” (Genesis 16:13).

DEVOTION

In Genesis 16, we see Hagar—alone, hurt, and running away into the wilderness. She felt unseen and forgotten. But in that very moment, the Angel of the Lord found her. God spoke to her, comforted her, and gave her hope for the future.
Hagar then called Him El Roi, meaning “the God who sees me.”
Even today, this truth remains the same—God still sees us.
Recently, a friend of mine shared a touching experience. After spending a tiring day comforting and caring for her patients, she entered an elevator. A stranger, someone she had never seen before, looked at her and said, “You are beautiful.”
She was surprised. But when the elevator stopped and she stepped out, the lady was nowhere to be found.
This moment reminded us of how God sees the hidden acts of love and service we offer. My friend is a God-fearing and compassionate doctor, serving the suffering with care and humility. In that simple and unexpected moment, it felt like a reminder from God, “I see you and I am watching over you.”
Jesus Himself said in Matthew 25:40:
“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
When we serve others with love, we are serving Christ. And God, who sees everything, often encourages us in ways we may not fully understand.
The Bible shows us that God used angels to comfort, guide, and strengthen His people, not only in the Old Testament but also in the New Testament. These moments remind us that God is not distant. He is actively watching over His children.
Just like Hagar in the wilderness, and just like my friend in that quiet moment—God sees, God knows, and God sustains.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for being the God who sees us.
Even when we feel unnoticed, You are near.
Help us to continue serving others with love and humility.
Strengthen our faith and remind us that You are always watching over us.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

You are the God who came for our salvation, who walks with us in this earthly life, and who is preparing us to one day see Your face in eternity.
