My Lord and My God
Bible Reading: St. John 20:24-29

Key Verse:   “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed” (John 20:29)

DEVOTION

The meeting of Thomas the Apostle and the risen Jesus Christ is a carefully shaped testimony about faith, identity, and revelation. By the end of the first century, the first generation of eyewitnesses was passing away. They needed an empirical certainty focused on how could they believe without seeing? In John 20:24-29 dignifies the journey from doubt to faith.

Thomas’ confession “My Lord and my God!” is the climax of the Gospel of John. From the opening declaration, “the Word was God” (John 1:1), to this final proclamation, the Gospel builds toward recognizing Jesus’ full divine identity. Thomas directly calls Jesus “God.” It affirms that the risen Christ is not merely a teacher or prophet, but fully divine. This confession became foundational for later Christian theology, shaping doctrines about the nature of Christ. Jesus’ response “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed” extends the story to all future believers.
Jesus does not reject Thomas’ doubt; He meets it with compassion. This reveals a God who is not threatened by questions. When doubt was brought honestly before Christ, it become a pathway to deeper faith. Faith is not grounded in physical proof but in trust in the testimony of the apostles and the work of the Spirit. Thomas’ proclamation underlines that true faith is not merely intellectual agreement but a relational commitment.
We often live between Thomas’ doubt and his confession. Christ calls us to the vision of faith. The resurrection is not only an event to be proven; it is a reality to be encountered. And in that encounter, we are invited to move from curiosity to conviction, from observation to worship and declare with faith “My Lord and My God.”.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, you are patient with my questions and gentle with my doubts. You do not turn me away when I struggle to believe, but come near and invite me closer. Open my eyes to see and know You.  Strengthen my faith where it is weak, and lead me into deeper trust. May my heart, rise in worship and surrender: “My Lord and my God.”  Amen.
