Supreme Lordship

Bible Reading:    Psalm 24

Key verse:  Vs 1

: The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it Psalm 24:1

DEVOTION

Tradition states that Psalm 24 was considered a Processional Psalm, sung before entering the holy temple of God. It was a communal expression of praise, reverence and acknowledgement of the supremacy of the Holy God.
When we study this Psalm we see that David understood his God so profoundly. In Verse 1 David proclaims “The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it. The world, and all who live in it”. David loved and revered his God because he knew his God intimately. Out of his love and reverence, he feared and worshipped God with awe. He relied on God’s guidance and goodness and not in his strength or chariots. His devotion to his God was genuine and deep. God was his Shepherd, rock and refuge.
Acknowledging God’s supremacy puts our lives in alignment with God’s kingdom. It keeps us grounded and humble. It fosters trust and brings us peace and calmness amidst our struggles.  When we fail to recognize and submit to the sovereignty of God, it leads to a dangerous separation from God. In today’s age, with all the wrong teachings on independence, self-reliance, technology, riches, possessions, luxuries, contacts- people fail to depend on God for their needs. When everything else fails is when they reach out to God.
Matthew 6:33 states “Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all things will be added unto you”. When we put God first in our lives and seek his will life transforms and we will become more like him. We will hate what is evil and will work hard to please God. When God’s spirit takes control of our lives we will stop giving value to worldly things. The peace and joy we experience when we submit to God’s supremacy and will is far lasting, satisfying and fulfilling.

PRAYER

Lord create in me a heart like David, to seek you and know you and give you the honor and reverence you deserve and work hard to please you father.
