Forgiven to forgive

Bible Reading:  Ephesians 2:11-22

Key Verse Vs 13

V13“But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.”

DEVOTION

“I have a right to get the information without further explanation,” a student wrote bluntly to a teacher. Hurt and offended, he prepared for yet another confrontation with the student. But he received a gentle prompt: “Provide what is asked for” from a reputed physicist, confined to an electric wheelchair for decades. He once testified that his faith came from the heart. He was grateful to God for forgiving his sins and allowing him to ‘walk’ with Him. Scripture reminds us: forgiveness is not optional. Jesus teaches, “Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors” (Matthew 6:12). Through Christ, our debts were paid, and we were brought near to God (Colossians 2:13–14; Ephesians 2:13). Having received such mercy, how can we withhold it from others? In the parable of the unforgiving servant (Matthew 18:21–35), a man forgiven a great debt refuses to forgive a small one. The warning is clear: grace received must become grace extended. Bitterness hardens the heart, but forgiveness softens. Forgiveness does not deny hurt or ignore wisdom. It releases the offense into God’s hands. It often requires prayer, humility, and the Spirit’s strength. Michael Faraday, a great scientist and a believer, endured jealousy and criticism throughout his career. Yet he harbored no grudges. Greatness in God’s kingdom is measured not by intellect or achievement, but by grace. The teacher chose forgiveness over pride—and experienced peace. Is forgiveness easy? No. Is it transformative? Yes. Can’t we ‘walk’ closely with God then?

PRAYER

Heavenly Father,
Thank you for your mercy. Help us forgive all who have sinned against us until this time and guard our hearts from bitterness.  Amen.
