WORD OF GOD – THE SOURCE OF PEACE

Bible Reading: ::   Luke 1:57–66

Key verse

Bible Verse::“All who heard this wondered about it… For the Lord’s hand was with him.” (V.66)

DEVOTION

Luke 1:57-66 describes the birth of John the Baptist, a moment filled with the fulfilment of God’s promises, joyful obedience, and the revelation of God’s purpose. Through this passage, we understand that the Word of God is the true and unchanging source of peace.
1. God’s Word Brings Peace through His Promises (vv. 57–58)
Elizabeth’s long-awaited promise is fulfilled in God’s perfect time. The joy of her neighbors shows that fulfilled promises bring deep peace, removing years of sorrow and shame. God’s timing may not match ours, but His Word never fails. When we trust His promises—even in silence or waiting—He fills our hearts with peace that circumstances cannot take away.
2. God’s Word Brings Peace through Obedience (vv. 59–64)
Elizabeth and Zechariah obey the angel’s command to name the child John. This obedience required courage because it went against tradition, but obedience to God’s Word always brings clarity and harmony. When Zechariah writes, “His name is John,” his speech returns, and he praises God. This shows that disobedience steals peace, but obedience restores peace, order, and joy.
3. God’s Word Brings Peace through Revealed Purpose (vv. 65–66)
The people marvel and ask, “What then is this child going to be?” because they sense God’s hand upon John. Purpose gives peace. God’s Word reveals who we are and why we are here. Even when the future is unknown, knowing God's hand is with us brings confidence and calm. Where God’s Word is honored, peace flows into families, churches, and communities.
Conclusion
In this passage, we see that God’s promises, when fulfilled, bring peace. Obedience to God’s Word releases peace. God’s purpose revealed gives lasting peace. When our lives are anchored in God’s Word, we live in a peace that the world cannot give and cannot take away. Peace does not come from the absence of problems, but from the presence of God’s word.

PRAYER

Lord, thank You for the peace that comes from Your Word. Help us trust your promises, obey your voice, and walk in your purpose. Fill our hearts with your peace today. Amen.
