Be Silent and Trust in God’s Presence

Bible Reading: :Zechariah 2:10–13

Key verse

Be silent all flesh,  before the Lord, for He is aroused from  His holy habitation. Vs 13

DEVOTION

As we continue to experience a new liturgical year in the Church, we are coming to picture God drawing near to His people. In Zechariah 2:10-13, verse 10 says, “Shout and be glad…for I am coming, and I will live among you,” declares the Lord. In the end of the verse, it says, “Be still before the Lord, all mankind, because He has roused Himself from His holy dwelling.” These verses are very important in today’s society, especially since we live in an environment where there is noise, disruptions, and endless striving for something always. God is calling and inviting us to quiet our hearts and trust that he is actively dwelling within each of us.
The silence before God is not empty silence. It is the stillness of a calm heart that believes that God is working even when we don’t see progressions and evidence in our day to day lives. When the Lord says He is coming to dwell among His people, He is reminding us that His presence is not distant or passive. He is near, attentive, and engaged in the details of our lives. Our task is not to figure everything out but to rest in the truth that the God who dwells with us is also the God who fights for us.
Many times, when situations don’t go “our” way, we try to control the outcomes and circumstances. God calls us to something different. This is by trusting in him and by believing in His presence even before His answers arrive to us. Let us remember that silence is a part of the faith journey, that God will dwell within us all by guiding, strengthening and surrounding us with His unfailing love.

May God be with each of you. Amen. †

PRAYER

“Father, allow my restless thoughts to fall still so I may hear the gentle truth that only silence can reveal. Amen

Thought for the DAY

Quiet my mind Lord
Make me still before You
Calm my restless heart Lord
Make me more like You
