MORE THAN SILVER AND GOLD: VALUING EVERY PERSON”
Bible Reading: ACTS 3:1-10
Key verse:
VERSE 6: “Silver and gold I do not have; but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.”
DEVOTION
In Acts 3:1-10 focuses on the miraculous healing of a lame beggar by Peter and John at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, emphasizing the power of faith, the name of Jesus Christ, and God’s transformative grace. There was a man crippled from birth was carried by people every day to temple gate named Beautiful, so that he could beg from those going to the temple courts. When the lame beggar saw Peter and John about to go into the temple, he began asking to receive alms just as he did from everyone walking nearby. Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said “Look at us” so, the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them. Then Peter said “Silver or Gold I do not have, but what I have, I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk. Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. He went with them to the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. When all the people saw him walking and praising God, they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the Temple Gate called Beautiful, and they were all filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
In Acts 3, we see the Apostles continuing the ministry of Jesus by healing the sick and preaching the good news of salvation. The chapter challenges us to be bold in our faith and share the message of Jesus with others. The power of God is at work in us, and through us, and we are called to be witnesses to the world, just as the lame man was healed and transformed, so too may our lives be changed by the power of the gospel, and then we can go on to help others.
PRAYER
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, help us to see the needs of others and give us the strength and compassion to extend a helping hand to lift them up. Amen.
