Teach and Learn with Godly Insight

Bible Reading:   Acts 18:24-28

Key verse: “He had been instructed in the way of the Lord and he spoke with burning enthusiasm and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus, though he knew only the baptism of Jesus.” Acts 18:25

DEVOTION

Apollos, a Jewish Scholar, proficient in scripture and an eloquent speaker has made a remarkable impact in the lives of believers. Being a citizen of Alexandria, his background directs that his wisdom, education and eloquence are all bound together.
Apollos, an active learner of the word of God.
Apart from being well versed in scriptures, he was instructed in the way of the Lord. The attained knowledge led him to be a true disciple of Jesus. Though a learned scholar, his life exemplifies continuous learning. The verse reminds that he is more inclined to the Baptism of John (baptism of repentance) than baptism of Holy Spirit. But with a humble and submissive heart, he accepted the correction from Aquila and Priscilla. His act of humility should inspire us to deepen our faith by understanding the word in the light of God's wisdom.
Apollos was not just a learner but also a true Teacher.
The word of God burned in him like fire and he well communicated with people about Jesus. Verses 26 and 28 inform us that he spoke boldly about Jesus in the synagogue and to the people of Ephesus.  His defense of truth and to stand by truth was a notable attitude. His love and passion for the teachings of Jesus was reflected in his speech, as the word confirms he taught accurately.
Apollos a True Evangelist
He testified Jesus through his word and actions. The believers were eager to hear from him so that they may get empowered. He was compassionate to new believers and helped them by sharing the word of God.  He interpreted the scripture to the opposing Jews that the Messiah is Jesus ( vs 28).
His evangelism spread across Achaia and Corinth. He was also a fellow worker with Paul in Lord's ministry.  Even though there were divisions among people about the leaders of faith in Corinthians, they were encouraged to believe that they all belong to one true faith and father.

PRAYER

Lord, enable us to learn your word diligently and be a torch bearer of your word wherever we are placed. Amen

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

“All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction and for training in righteousness so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficiently equipped for every good work.” 2 Tim.3:16-17.
