FAMILY THAT HAS TO BE BUILT UPON CHRIST

1 John 2:7-17

Verse:15  Do not love the world or love anything in the world. If anyone loves the world the love of the Father is not in him.

The biblical command to love is old, but the newness is seen in the divine love on the cross.  Christ's exposition of the old testament law is new to Christ's new believers.  Their daily experience as believers should grow as they love each other in Christ's love.    Their Christian experience when they hear the gospel should enhance a newness in the command of love.  The message of Christ's love is seen in Jesus who is the true light and the darkness is passing.
Anyone who claims to be in the light, who is the Christ, and hates his brethren, is staying back still in darkness.    In the Bible hatred and love are moral qualities, and are not primarily emotions, but attitudes expressed in actions. In verses 12-14, by extended repetition of addressing his readers young and old, Apostle John assures his readers that, he is confident of their salvation, and that it may describe different levels of spiritual maturity.
Many Christians struggle with hatred, aggravated hurt bearing a grudge that they can't seem to get beyond, or don't really want to get beyond. Biblically forgiveness is not optional, it is the very core of the gospel. In practice, this is what it means to love our neighbor.
Do not conform to the world, the Apostle John's exhortation is convicting and difficult, it is strongly advised to those of us who are entangled in the present age.  “World”  is often used to refer to demonic existence which is hostile towards God. The worldly realm is in rebellion against the heavenly realm. Jesus refers to satan as the ruler of the world who is the evil one in control of the world.  Apostle exhorts everyone to keep themselves from being polluted by the world.  If you sincerely want to escape from the corruption of the world caused by evil desires, then you must engage in divine practices and must live by the will of the father.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, Often times we are sorry that we got entangled by the world and its entices, and also for the inability to go beyond to forgive and throw off the grudge. Help us to live by the will of the father and walk in your light always...Amen

Thought of the day
Unwillingness to forgive cuts off from forgiveness of our sins.
