People of God: Ministry and Model

Psalm 119:33-40

“Teach me, Lord, the way of your decrees, that I may follow it to the end.” - v. 33

As we meditate on this Psalm, it is a portion of the longest Psalm in the Bible, Psalm 119.  This portion reminds us that we need to focus on our lives.  In the world that we live in, we are distracted in many ways.  One great way is financial desires.  In v. 36, it says ‘not toward selfish gain’.  In today’s time we see covetousness all over, even in our own personal life.  Money became an idol to many of us, but this passage reminds us that obedience to God is much more valuable than wealth.  We should focus our lives on the Heavenly treasures rather than the earthly one.  It is hard for many of us to do so because we are not sure or confident in many things.  In other words, we do not have strong faith.  We should understand by trusting God that our life focused on God is far better than having our lives focused on this world.  It may seem attractive to us, but it is deceitful.  This world will never complete us, only God can.  When we look at v. 37, we are reminded that our eyes should not focus on the worthless things of this world but godly things that can preserve our lives and sustain us.

Let us direct our lives to God, who can give us greater understanding which is only done through a constant relationship with Him.  Let us draw closer to God each day and let God move us away from our flesh desires and mold us to desire His ways and His will for us.  Jesus said, “I am the way, the Truth and the Life”.  There is no other true way that brings life but Christ Himself.  Never let the world and its earthly ways and desire fool us.  Let us turn to God who is beyond trustworthy and will never fail us.  He will never leave us nor forsake us. Let us never leave Him either.

Thought for the Day:
“Our way lies not in human ingenuity, but in a return to God.”
― Billy Graham

Prayer:
Holy God, help me never to be deceived by the world and its temporal pleasures, but rather know to abide in you.  You are the One who will never forsake us, help me to genuinely follow You as You genuinely never left my side.  Amen.
